  1. I'm not sure there is a lower rent district. We were at the main fort in a lake view room. King bed, spacious, private bath. Interestingly, there are no locks on the doors when you leave the room. You can lock yourself in but not out. Heat was bearable during the day but I am used to 98% humidity in central Louisiana. Without the water in the air is was down right nice. At night temperatures were pleasant. Rooms were air conditioned well so no issues while inside. Need to watch for density altitude. The Mooney did not like climbing out to 10,000 feet even at 9:00 a.m. Albuquerque Center drops you some 30-40 miles out on descent and on takeoff cannot be reached again until you reach 9,000 or higher. Just something to note.
  2. Just a follow up on the my trip. Cibolo Creek Ranch is a great west Texas experience. Very relaxing. Catch and release fishing, ATV tours, skeet, hiking etc. ranch airstrip is exactly that, just a strip of concrete. It was not even in my Garmin 530 database. I had to navigate by iPad and off Marfa VOR radial by distance. Staff followed on flight aware and was waiting to pick us up. If you are looking to be 40 miles from the nearest street light this is the place. Be aware of wind is from the east, landing east is tricky to get down over raising terrain and telephone wires on approach end of runway. Marfa is 35 miles and for a fee ranch will pick you up.
  3. Cibolo is about 5000 feet elevation between two ridges at 8000. How about advice on leaning for takeoff at this altitude?
  4. Heading to Cibolo Creek Ranch in West Texas / Marfa Area for the weekend and 21st wedding anniversary. Planning on pitstop in Junction / Kimble County Regional. Anyone been to Cibolo Creek Ranch? Ideas, Obstacles, warnings, other advice about landing there. I know they do not have fuel so I will plan accordingly on the way back.
  5. Just curious if any PIREP for Louisiana or Texas for turbulence today. I see the Airmet but the pireps are all slight or moderate chop. I would just appreciate any thoughts or if anyone has gone up today. Going Alexandria, La. to San Antonio, Tx. Winds are howling but right down the runway in SAT. Thoughts?
  6. Happy New Year. My partner and I both have ANR headsets (Bose/Lightspeed) in our J Model. The most recent Mooney Flyer had some letters regarding the ability to get the gear warning horn and the stall horn to transmit through the headset so that it is more audible for those of us using the headsets and losing our hearing at the same time. Has anyone made this happen? If so, how was it wired and was any additional equipment needed? Thanks for the help.
  7. As I fly around the country, and when I hear another Mooney I write down the tail number out of curiosity and thought I would share the tail numbers with the group in case someone recognizes them and reminisce about their trip. N460DP - heard it on the way to the Masters last year somewhere in Memphis Center area N643RJ - Flying to Monroe, La. N9462M - on the way to KRFG N1026F - same trip on the way to KRFG N5291E - KAEX to KRBD N201CK - KAEX to KSSF (San Antonio) N133CL - Leaving KSSF (I think)
  8. Has anyone been to Byrds? Grass strip is 2500 feet and wondering if anyone has landed a Mooney there. Almost sure I am flying to Ft. Smith anyway but was curious.
  9. Thank you for the responses. Since Vance said I cannot do it myself and Marauder gave me the instructions, I will do exactly what the FAA requires while also making the compass work correctly. I appreciate all of the help and answers. I'm not completely sure Marauder was still referring to my compass.
  10. I have a vertical card compass in my J. Picture attached. We did some recent panel work and the glare shield was removed. After picking the plane up we noticed that the compass did not read correctly. Presumably the displacement was caused when the compass was hit when removing the glare shield. I know the little white balls on each side help "balance" the compass because of the amount of metal int he Mooney, but I am not sure exactly how to re-calibrate the compass. There are two small screws in the bottom of the compass card that I assume are used to re-calibrate. Is this something I can do or do I need a mechanic. If I can do it, any helpful hints, youtube video of this being done or other suggestions are welcome.
  11. Saturday, May 9, 2015. Annual Spring Fly-In - Come see the new full length taxiway and new parking areas. Pineville Municipal has one of the few inland water runways in the south and now we have a new ramp to get your plane in and/or out of the water (Mooney on Floats?). Things get started Saturday Morning for a full day of fun. Weather should be great. Come join the fun.
  12. Forgot to change orientation on upload. Sorry.
  13. I have the following items for sale. Condition is disclosed for each. Buyer pays the freight. KNS 80 NAV system - Screen was flickering when removed. Operating Condition is unknown. Make an offer. If it does not work for your intended purpose, you will only be out the freight of getting it and sending it back. KMA 24 Marker Beacon Receiver and Isolation Amplifier - Working order when removed last week. $350.00 (cheaper than any of them on Ebay) Bendix King KI 202 VOR / LOC Receiver - $200.00. Was working when removed. If it does not work when you get it I will refund money and you are only out the shipping both ways. Bendix King KI 227 ADF Indicator and KR 87 ADF with antenna - Sold separately or together. Make an offer. KR 87 needs a new screen - It was not working when removed so I cannot verify if the indicator was working. It may just need a new screen. However, it looks to be in good condition. PS Engineering PM 1000 panel mount intercom - working flawlessly when removed. $200.00. KS 270 Pitch Servo - not working. This would be for spare parts only for someone rebuilding a servo. Plastic case is also broken or cracked. Make an offer.
  14. We already owned the other 396. I had one when i bought the plane and the other one was already in the plane. We removed non-functioning equipment and for no additional cost stacked the 396's. No Narco radios. Yes, Antennas are close to each other. Maybe 6-8 inches. I will try moving them to the outside corners of the windscreen. Thanks for the information.
  15. All: We have had a panel mount Garmin 396 in the plane for some time. The antenna has always been mounted on the glareshield with the mini-suction cup mounts. We moved the panel around a bit and now actually have 2 panel mounted 396's. The antennas are now both mounted with velcro to the dash. We are now experiencing lost satellite reception periodically during the flight on both 396's. The 530 is not losing reception. We called the avionics shop and the response was that the antennas were getting hot on the dash. If that is true why were they not getting hot with the suction cup mount. The antenna is essentially in the same place just now it actually touches the dash instead of mounting to the bottom of the windshield. Any help is appreciated.
