  1. ha...a bunch of pilots talking about how much disney land costs. (shakes head)
  2. I don't own a mooney...yet. But I would be glad to join you guys somewhere as long as no one laughs and points at the Arrow I am flying. KFOE (Forbes field in Topeka) is always our fuel stop in the 60 because they feed us $1 BBQ on the airfield. Its nothing special, but its great for $1! ...Im not sure if GA pilots are treated the same way. Heres to taking on 275 gallons of Jet A per aircraft after a 2hr flight I would love to check out K81. If they have Jet A maybe we will start hitting them up for some variety (I have heard from some that our command is getting tired of briefing flights that include KFOE).
  3. Two of the 60 pilots were friends of mine from flight school! What a cool mission to be a part of!
  4. Thanks David, Everything you said resonates with me. Im having a blast, I just have to keep that nose down on approach. I am doing the same thing with crosswinds, putting the slip in early just to figure out the right proportions, but I am trying to progressively do it closer and closer to the ground. Its coming to me. I have never flown a Mooney, but my research says this is the plane for us (50% owner and I, do I call him my "partner"?), even though I have a special spot in my heart for a bonanza (Dont get mad). I would love to take you up on your offer, but I am in the midwest and I dont see myself in GA with free time anytime soon. If anyone is a little closer to home for me, I would be glad to travel for the opportunity to get my hands on an m20.
  5. I have 8.0 hrs fixed wing, so I'm sure it domes eventually
  6. Hi all. I am just beginning to consider a mooney as my first airplane. I hold a commercial and instrument rotorcraft - helicopter license. I am working on a commercial IFR fixed wing transition and should be finishing up within the next couple of months. From what I know so far, I am looking at J and K models. I appreciate the help of the community so far and look forward to continuing to learn. So far I'm enjoying the fixed wing world, still having to remind myself to keep the nose down and keep my speed up on the approach
  7. Not to thread jack, but what a crappy week for military aviation. A C-12 (King Air) went down over Afghanistan today too, killing all 3 on board. Won't know for weeks, but I know the England crash was a low level flight, offering limited time to respond to any emergency. We did find out today that the 17DEC 60 crash in Afghanistan was caused by enemy fire. One of the pilots on that flight was a very good friend of mine from WOCS and flight school. May they all rest in peace. So...back 1RX...is she still being flown on a regular basis?
  8. Thanks for the follow, Dave. That all makes sense. Good luck with your sale (...and deep inside, I mean may it still be available for me in March).
  9. Dave, I have seen this aircraft listed on ASO and maybe another site. I get excited each time I see it. I am a complete newbie to the mooney world (and fixed wing community in general), so my opinion is probably pretty worthless...but I think you have a nice airframe here. Unfortunately, I will not be in the market until spring. If I was in the market today, I would head your way for a serious conversation about this aircraft. For your sake, I hope it sells...but I wont personally be disappointed if it takes a couple more months. I am a little leery about the GB engine. I understand that they will update it to an LB model, but for the next 600+ hrs, its still a GB. Do you believe you have incurred additional maintenance due to the known issues of the GB model engine? Has this model produced any other challenges for you?
