  1. I am in the Los Angeles area so a hangar is not only extremely expensive, but there are also waiting lists. That's why I looked at the tie down option. I've already gotten a quote for the insurance and tie down, the annual inspection is the thing that I don't know what to expect with. I was hoping to get an idea on average yearly costs for maintenance so I could better calculate my options. I know the fuel burn is around 10 GPH so that's easy to calculate into things. If the annual runs around $2500 that would put my yearly fixed costs around $6000, but if they tend to be significantly higher than that I'd love to know. I am thinking that my best option is likely a partnership as I will be flying less than 50 hours a year. At that number of hours I'll be getting my hourly rate killed by the fixed costs.
  2. I'm looking into ownership for the first time and have my eyes on a Mooney 20J. Ideally I'd like to form a partnership for it, but I'd like to piece together some numbers so I can see if it makes sense for me. I've already priced out insurance at $2500 a year, and my local tie down at $90 a month. I'd like to hear about the annual inspections and other maintenance costs so I get an idea of the true cost of ownership. Thanks much!
  3. Thanks much! I've pretty much hit a wall with the rental options. My parents live in San Jose and we vacation to Lakeport each summer. I'd like to be able to take weekend trips to San Jose and a week for the vacation, but the daily minimums around here kill all hopes of that. A partnership would really be ideal for me, but I've had zero luck finding anything in the area. I would consider a C or E model, but I've only flown the J and really loved it
  4. Hello everyone, I'm a new member to this forum (not new to forums in general though!) and it looks like this is my introductory post. Quick background on me, I live right by the Santa Monica airport and though I earned my private ticket by 20 I have done very little flying in the past 10 years. Marriage and a daughter changed everything, but my 20 year old self would be sick to his stomach to see me not up in the air more. So, I thought I would reach out and see if there was anyone in the LA area that might like a flying buddy. I'm private, multi, inst rated so if you hate flying buddies and just need an IFR safety pilot I can work with that too I'll pour on a little more information as well, though I may start a new thread about this part: One of the reasons I don't fly that much is that I am renting at KSMO. There isn't a lot of choice there, and the prices are high. As a renter the daily minimums kill all hopes and dreams of flying up to the bay area for vacations etc. I would love to find a partnership/rental/club in an aircraft where I could actually fly 500 miles away and stay for a week (M20J anyone?). If anyone has any advice on this I'd love to hear it!
