Lood Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 I've had a new JPI EDM700 installed and went for the first long flight this past weekend. When in the auto scan mode though, after a while ".0 FF" flashes in it's display at the bottom. It stays put until I press the Step butoon after which the auto scan resumes as normal. After a while though, the whole process repeats itself. I only have the EGT and CHT temperature probes as well as the battery voltage option installed - no fuel flow. I've gone through the manual but can't find anything referring to a ".0 FF" flashing message on the display. I would appreciate any advice here, please. Quote
Cruiser Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 the ".0 FF" is an alarm. When a parameter falls outside of its normal limits, the digital display will flash with the value and abbreviation of the alarming item. Pushing the STEP button clears the alarm for ten minutes. Then the alarm will flash again. You can continue to push the STEP button every 10 minutes to clear the alarm, or hold the STEP button when the alarm is displayed until the word OFF appears. This will disable the alarm for the remainder of the flight. Check the manual for Pilot Programming. You can turn the Fuel status on and off. If the fuel flow is set to on, this may be the problem. Lood Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 Thanks - my exact thoughts. Fuel flow is enabled, but since it's not installed, the JPI keeps on warning that there's no fuel flow. I noticed that it asks "FILL? N" on start-up. I'll check the manual on how to turn the fuel flow off. Quote
Cruiser Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 I would suggest you strongly consider adding the fuel flow option. If the electronics are already installed, you only need a transducer. I believe the Hoskins FT-101 installed in most Js will work with the JPI but may need some adjustments of the K factor for accurate readings. Quote
Lood Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 I bought my Mooney with an Electronics International FP-5 fuel flow computer allready installed so I kept it when the JPI installation was done. In retrospect, it would be nice to have everything in one instrument. Could the EI FP-5's wiring work with a JPI? I am adding oil- and OAT next year so I might just as well go all the way and add the JPI fuel flow as well. Quote
Magnum Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 It should work, but you should only connect ground and signal (black and white). Don't connect power (red). But check the colors with a multimeter first. Quote
rob Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if you connect the transducer to the JPI and remove the FP5-L you'll lose almost all the functionality of the Fuel Computer, won't you? I thought that the JPI only displayed current flow, and didn't measure fuel used, remaining, T to E, etc. Quote
Magnum Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 You can connect them in parallel. I have this setup in my J, the JPI and the stock FF work together. The JPI has FF, Fuel Remain, GPH, Miles/gal, and if connected to a GPS remaining fuel at destination, etc. If you add OAT and Manfold Pressure you get (quite accurate) HP reading, too. Quote
