  1. My 1979 M20J has a step. I am thinking of removing it. I don't need it because I fly by myself 95% of the time. I'd rather have more speed. Has anyone removed their step? How do you do it? Did it increase your speed at all and if so how much?
  2. I have seen where a lot of us Mooney folks have smoothed their wings, hidden their antennae, added mods, etc. I was just walking around the plane and looking at all of the protrusions into the airstream and thought of air hitting these. Looks like one is to add pressure to the battery box. Another is a static drain maybe. Looks like a transponder antennae, mystery antennae?. Anyone have good results or is it even smart and or feasible to clean all this up? I forgot to take a photo of the whisker antennas as well. Jet driven and others have gone the extra mile smoothing wings as well. Just curious and thought it would make for some fun discussion.
  3. Hi my family is currently in the home stretch of buying our 1969 M20F. I was wondering what are some simple mods wether they are appearance or performance that are simple and low cost to improve the plane??

  5. What all-in price for an ABS (anti-skid braking system) STC including installation costs would make it a 'no-brainer' decision for you? Some may not be interested at any price. Glad to hear your opinions as well. Potential benefits include reduced tire wear/damage, shorter braking distances, improved safety, etc. Existing systems for other types are costly and require extensive modification. Our plan intends to reduce cost by at least an order of magnitude. We are looking for interest in light FAR 23 for this sort of system. Thank you for your time.
  6. I am considering the purchase of a M20F with an extensive list of 201 modifications including 201 panel, cowl, windshield, windows, wingtips, root fairings among others. I have been supplied copies of the 337 forms. Unfortunately the mods were done on or before 1990 when the requirements for the 337 forms were not as strict. The 337's are pretty vague on how these modifications were installed and most have no reference to any STC or existing installation. I am concerned that I may have issues properly insuring this airplane with these issues in mind. I am also concerned, although to a lesser degree, that an IA may find basis to refuse inspection on the basis of the aircraft being operated outside of its type certificate because of these "in the grey" 337's. The plane has complete logs, no damage history, and is in compliance with all applicable AD's. Most of these mods were done by "the mod squad" with address in Missouri, I am not sure if its the same Mod Squad that is now in business exclusively in Florida. Does anyone have any thoughts on how best to go about finding some reassurance?
