  1. I follow the 1200RPM and don't touch a thing technique and it works for me quite well. Sometime after I get a "good" hot start I have to "saw" the throttle from that position to idle a bit until I can get the RPMs up as to get cool liquid fuel down all the spider lines. But here is something else you can do to help yourself out.... When you shut down, point the airplane into the wind if possible, and double check the cowl flaps are open (what little ones we have,) and if you are leaving the plane for any amount of time, open up the cowl door and allow as much heat to escape as possible. Enjoy Cheers, -HD
  2. New electronic monitor or factory setup? Did it suddenly start doing that or has it slowly been rising each flight? I only ask to see if it would be worth it to throw the oil temp probe into some boiling water to see what the gauge reads. You're in Utah so it would only be what, 205 or so???
  3. Thanks everyone for the pointers to resources. Maybe I'll start catching up to some of them in late June or July.
  4. Quote: JimR HD, I wanted to tell you publically how much I enjoyed your formation photography. They are some of the most interesting that I have ever seen that included a Mooney. Well done and thanks for posting them! Jim
  5. When is / was the fly-in at Llano? I go in there all the time as I have family that lives there. What fly-in group is it? Where can I get notified of TX fly-ins? I know, lots of questions but CLL is horrible for GA and I can't find good information on TX GA stuff. Cheers, -HD
  6. Thanks for the welcome. Don't worry about not catching me at the airport - while 9348M is there, I am not. I'm actually in Afghanistan for a while longer. My wife has her PPL but we (read I) haven't gotten her up to speed on flying the Mooney solo yet. You go into CLL often?
  7. The flight lead who helped out is an old friend of mine...his wife was an air force pilot too and a current CFI. Good thing it wasn't a Piper...even the Hawg wouldn't have been able to get slow enough!
