On a short x-country flight this May ATC gave me a traffic advisory that I was being overtaken by a aircraft at my 7 O'clock. My wife said to me why is a plane over-taking us? I said to her because we don't have a Mooney. She paused for a few seconds and replied can't you fix that? Two months later my PA28-180 was gone and I now own a M20J. Then last week on a cross country to Sault Saint Marie, Mi, ATC advised two aircraft, one at my 12 O'clock and another at my 1 O'clock also both Northbound that they were “being overtaken at ~30knots by a Mooney”. My wife looked at me and said “now that's more like it”. My only regret is that we weren't overtaken a few years earlier.

My M20J developed a leak from the bottom front of my magnetic compass. Can anyone tell me if there is a replaceable seal in the housing or is it just time for a new compass? Bill

I officially became an M20J and first time Mooney owner yesterday after a good pre-buy. About a year of looking and the sale of my Cherokee 180, but it all came together in the last 28 days. Just a make and model checkout and IPC comes next then I'm good to go. Thanks for the help on pre-buy and maintenance recommendations. I'm sure I'll have some new owner questions in the future. Thanks guys, Northern Air is much closer for the seller to travel to and I hadn't considered them but I'll make some calls Monday.

I flew a M20J yesterday and will probably make an offer. Is there anyone in West Michigan I can talk to about what I should look for in pre-buy or who maintains their Mooney for them that they are happy with?
