  1. i think the reason for wanting a newer model is for the speed and updated panel, not to mention more leg room. i am coming to the conclusion that even if i did get a newer mooney then i would want the ovation which is something i def cant afford. i think what i will do is plan on keeping the plane for 10 years or so and just make upgrades. i just cant beat the cost and really have fun flying it. right now the plane cruises at 150 mph and if i can get it up to 160 at a descent price i would be very happy. so what is goiing on with the electric landing gear? are they going to find a cost effective fix for the actuator or what do you think is going to happen?
  2. I am working through a few things with my mooney but cant seem to make my mind up. my first issue is I work out of town in virginia and if I flew my plane in, it would only take me 45 minutes to fly home versus 3.5 hrs driving. The problem is I dont want virginia hitting me with a user fee for keeping my plane there. does anybody know where I can find out virginias user fee laws? my other question is... I really love my plane, shes a 1968 m20c but in reality I really really want a newer model like a later 70 to 80's model. I just bought this plane like 8 months ago to use as a stepping stone to the newer model but now having second thoughts. I could forgo the newer model and put a 3 axis autopilot or the G500 with a new panel and all the speed mods the mooney gods have provided. what do you guys think??
  3. i flew with my jack russell and he never showed any signs of discomfort but i tried to climb and descend as slow as possible so not to hurt his ears
  4. yea hank that makes sense on the best way to start it. its a little harder to just take off and charge the battery since im in maryland i have to jump through hoops just to take off due to the tfr and frz here.
  5. it shouldnt have been a hot start since it took 2 hours to change the oil and when i previously started it, i only had it running for 5 minutes. ive owned the plane for 8 months now and have always had a problem when i start it for the first time of the day but heck this was the second time.
  6. so i had my oil changed today in my 1968 m20c ranger and when i got to the airport this morning i did a cold start and the plane started right up. btw it has a brand new battery. anyway once we were finished with the oil change i tried to start it and although the engine was turning over it would not start for anything. it seemed as though the spark plugs were fowled. i tried to warm start it first then tried to cold start. then thought maybe it was flooded and tried to start it with mixture out and throttle out. i finally let it sit for 30 minutes tried again to no avail. i had the mechanic try to start it then he killed the battery. so we take the cowl off and start charging the battery. the mechanics check the mixture cable, spark plugs, vibrator and some other stuff and didnt see anything that would prevent the plane from starting. finally i tried to start it again and it finally started!!!! we never did figure out what the problem was but when i was taxing back to my parking spot i noticed the ameter was showing a positive charge and i decided to taxi around and idle for awhile to let the battery charge. i did this for around 20 minutes but the charge never neutralized. has anybody else had this problem? and if so what was the cause??
