No shimmy, no directional problems. My A&P is very experienced overall, with some Mooney experience but not a lot. We have a great relationship where we do owner assisted annuals and it's a very learning friendly environment, but he's also quite conservative.i can have the discussion about deferring maintenance if I bring some substance. This group helps a lot with that.

I have read other threads here about this but I'd still appreciate input on the urgency of action regarding how much play there is in the nose gear. My A&P seems to think it's pretty bad. Edit: just removed access restrictions. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PlbGSu-92SCLNSjbroHss-wG_-plGW70/view?usp=drivesdk Thank you all!

Elevator bungee springs
cruiserflyer replied to cruiserflyer's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Great responses, thank you! The elevator is perfectly in line with the horizontal stab on the ground. I am definitely not in favor of unnecessary maintenance and will take all these answers to the hangar on Thursday. My main goal at the moment is to locate the oil leak source. My A&P mentioned it might be the fuel pump diaphragm but we'll clean it up first, then run it and see if we can source it. On our ferry flight from Spokane to eastern Montana we only were down half a quart, hardly anything to worry about. -
Elevator bungee springs
cruiserflyer replied to cruiserflyer's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I think just by feel, that there does not appear to be any resistance or spring pushback. I was honestly deferring to them, but I didn’t feel any slack or troubling feeling in the controls. From pushing gently up and down on the elevator the bolt moves all the way out and in. Since I am deferring to them I took it on faith that it must be wrong, but maybe it’s fine. My A&P has owned about a dozen Mooney’s so I just listen to them. The pics are of me pushing and pulling. -
Hello all. I am finally an owner. I recently purchased M20F 3288F, a 1967 model. I love the aircraft and ferried it back from Washington state with my A&P/CFI. Two issues that are demanding attention are an oil leak which is "lubricating" the nose gear, and what appears to be weak elevator bungee springs. I will be at the hangar with my A&P this Thursday to start addressing these issues. I did buy the service manuals (but I left them in the aircraft an hour away) but I'd like to know if this is something that can be solved by opening up the bungees and replacing springs. Both the A&P who last looked at the aircraft and my A&P think this needs to be addressed so I'm 100% on board, just trying to get a lead on part sourcing. Any guidance would be helpful. Can the bungee assemblies be opened up and, what I presume are springs, be replaced? Thanks! Paul

General aviation engines don't tend to "wear out" they are more "abused out". Things like not flying often enough, poor maintenance, abusive engine settings, corrosive environments, are what causes engines to not make it to TBO. If properly maintained, flown often, with good engine management skills the odds are you'll go way past TBO with no signs of the kind of trouble that would make you split the case.

Lehigh Valley Mooney CFI Checkout
cruiserflyer replied to cruiserflyer's topic in General Mooney Talk
Hello ProtoFly, maybe we should meet up some time. I did find an instructor in NJ, he's a bit of a drive but since the endorsement shouldn't take too long, just a few trips out there shouldn't be a big deal. As suggested further up in this thread, I went to Mooneyflyer and scrolled until I found somebody and emailed them. Turns out they are fully insured and are able to knock this out for me. -

Ok, I see now. I emailed a guy in Jersey with his own F. Thank you for catching my mistake! -

Lehigh Valley Mooney CFI Checkout
cruiserflyer replied to cruiserflyer's topic in General Mooney Talk
Hello Pete, I don't have one yet, I thought I'd train before taking the plunge. Ideally some generous soul CFI would take pity and train me in their plane ;-), but I know this is a lot to ask. But it can't hurt to ask. I think the flight school at ABE has an M20C, but they don't have the best reputation. So I'm trying other avenues first. I thought I'd reach out to the community first. -

Thank you Nick! -
Hello folks, I am looking for a CFI in the Lehigh Valley area (Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Quakertown, Lansdale) who would be interested in helping me get my complex endorsement. I already have my high performance endorsement. If there are any Mooney owners, who are CFIs and are willing, I'm an eager beaver. Thanks! Paul

Is anyone in Lehigh valley looking to partner up on a vintage Mooney? Please bear in mind I have never flown one, have about 270hrs, am instrument rated and current but I would need to ramp up with a CFI to get my complex endorsement. I currently am high performance endorsed and flying a rented DA-40, so no stranger to the blue knob.

So to those who are coming, I'll meet you at the airport tomorrow between 11:30 and noon and drive you to Earls Pub and Grill for lunch. Looking forward to it!
-
Yes, since I live in the area, I'm driving to a restaurant nearby.

Just seeing who might be available this Saturday at Quakertown for lunch. This is a follow up to my previous Lehigh Valley post. I thought since orionflt was the closest member who responded I'd give this time slot a shot. I'm flexible though, other weekends work too. I'm just likely busy this Sunday. Hope to meet some new friends!

I am available!

This is kind of what was coming to my mind. That would be so fun.

Thank you Pinecone! Name the time and lunch is on me with pleasure! Thank you and your father for your service.

Thank you! XLL Queen City is the closest to home. I'm rejoining GA after a long hiatus. I have over 250 hrs, an instrument rating, as well as my high performance endorsement. I'm currently working on my BFR (dual instruction at XLL) and intend to work my way back to full proficiency.

Hello, I'm a budding Mooney enthusiast and am looking to get involved in any local clubs, or just trying to make friends with any local Mooneyac. I'm a 48 year old, instrument rated Navy vet, and working as an electrical engineer. Eventually I'd either like to buy a vintage Mooney or possibly go in on a partnership. But I have zero hours in a Mooney.
