  1. Got it! And I guess I need clamps on all terminations, which seems like I don’t currently have. Diagram calls for Corbin, can these be replaced by the screw type band?
  2. Thanks for the tips. Looks like this was missed during PPI and now annual ;(. I will definitely replace these and look into the vacuum pump as well.
  3. Over the past few months I noticed that my vacuum gauge slowly started indicating lower pressure readings both at idle and in flight. PSI had dropped below 4 while taxing and even in flight I was barely seeing 4.25PSI. When I told my AI during annual he said there was a kink in one of my hoses and he tried to relieve it. The low pressure is still indicated on the gauge but other than that no other symptoms. A couple days ago while trying to troubleshoot one of my post lights, I got into the inner side panel from the pilots side and thought to check the vacuum gauge connection. When I unscrewed the gauge and pulled it from the panel, I noticed the hose felt brittle and there was something inside (hose material debris?) There was also a crack, almost looked like a joint, where it was probably losing pressure. For sure I need to replace this hose, but I also want to replace the others since they also felt a little brittle and will most likely fail soon. I have a copy of the M20J parts manual but unfortunately I cannot make out the size of the hoses. This is figure 1 of 37-00-00 illustration -513. I can see a MIL-H-5593 but the rest is very hard to make out (bad resolution on my digital copy). Does anyone know what the part numbers are for all the hoses past the filter? Also, do you just buy by the foot and then cut to size, or can you buy these by the set?
  4. Hi All, I was wondering if anyone has updated their AI with a AV-30C. My vacuum system has been showing low pressure, even after replacing all the filters. The AI tumbles like crazy on the ground and sometimes won't even come up in the air. I want to get rid of the vacuum all together so was thinking of the AV-30C (I like the classic round look for my 6-pack) and wanted to see if anyone has experience with this on an M20. I have an M20J with GNS530 and King HSI slaved. Thanks! https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/uavionix_11-17556.php
  5. So prelim on the PPI for the 10K hour M20J showed some potential cracks on the weld joints of the MLG trunnions. Both sides apparently. I don't know if this is fixable or needs complete replacement of the metal. Has anyone seen this or been down this path?
  6. That's the one!
  7. Good point and thanks for the advice. Will make sure this gets special attention in PPI.
  8. This is a very interesting topic. I am also looking at purchasing a 201 with just over 10k TTAF hours and was wondering about the limits. This AC was used by the airlines and had good maintenance according to the logs. In contrast another 201 I saw only had 4K TTAF but over the last few years had been flown less than 10 hrs per year average. Last 3 months not even flown. I feel the 10K still a better choice but was wondering if anyone has that many hours on their Mooneys and if so what are your thoughts?
  9. Thanks everyone for all the inputs! Yes I will definitely have a PPI if I continue with the buying process. The plane has not been flown in the last 3 months from what I can tell. The annual was done in Jan and there's only 1 hr added to tach time since. It has lived in Southern CA from what I can tell and now tied down at Cable Airport in Upland, CA. I know the plane will need some TLC and upgrades and right now I'm debating whether to go with this or another plane that's 30k more that seems to be in better condition. I'm prepared to spend the 20-30k additional for anything that needs attention as well as upgrades.
  10. Hi All, I'm looking to make an offer on a 1974 M20F. I was very excited to see the airplane in person last week but I noticed a few areas that caught my attention as possible corrosion concerns. The plane was painted in 2010, so exterior wise it is in good shape and the only thing I noticed was the flywheel teeth seemed rusted (behind the spinner), per below. Not sure if this is common as the plane has been tied down outside during this rainy season. In the interior I also noticed that the prop, mixture, cowl flaps and heat/vent levers appear to have rust spots, circled in green. I'm not sure if this is common for a Mooney of this age and if anyone has experience with dealing with this issue. If anyone has changed out these parts (also would like to change the cracked plastic on the levers), are we talking hundreds or thousands of dollars? I did notice that when closing and latching the door, there was a gap on the top rear of the door, so it didn't seal correctly. Maybe this caused moisture in the cockpit leading to corrosion? The broker mentioned I just need to fix the latch and install new weather stripping. I will definitely have a pre-purchase inspection done to understand if corrosion is a big factor here, but just wanted to get some insights from Mooney owners that may have dealt with this on their aircraft. Also, are these issues normally caught/inspected during an annual or is it beyond the items checked for? Really appreciate the feedback. Thanks!
