Does your plane have a JPI EDM 800 or 900 series engine monitor? Would you like your aircraft to have wireless data logging and free data streaming to the cloud? We need a plane in the LA area this week for a project, and the owner will be provided with a FREE BlueMAX installation. Please email me ASAP if you are interested: gavin@flightdata.com Thanks!

Thanks for the information. I will check it out. Given that Garmin is no longer supporting the 480, will I be up a creak without a paddle if it turns out that one of the pins is damaged or should a shop be able to repair the connector?

Thanks Eli

Hi Eli, what model Mooney do you have? I need to do an engine setup to my Tsio-520 and from my experience about 1 in 1000 mechanics have any clue on how to properly get it done. The Mooney “experts” I’ve dealt have completely fouled up my setup and now I need to start at square one.

Anyone have suggestions for a shop in SoCal where we can have out Rocket worked on? We need someone that we can trust to troubleshoot both Mooney and Rocket specific issues. Thanks.

Hi All, Ever since I had my GTX345 installed, I've been having issues with our 480. I don't think it's seated properly and we keep getting a "Altitude encoder communications failure" message. Anyone know of a shop in southern California that has experience troubleshooting connection issues in 480's?

Unfortunately, we have not yet set up FlightData.com to take JPI files. I will let you know if that changes. -
Updates to CirrusReports (FlightData.com)
Gavin Woodman replied to Gavin Woodman's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Thanks for the feedback. I included the old name as many people are aware of the name... it had something close to 5000 users before we changed the name and only about 60% were cirrus. But we agree that’s why the company name has been charged to FlightData.com as it better represents the nature of the site. As to privacy, all of your data is private, we only share sample flights with the approval of the data owner. You will have a ubique log in and you will control your data. Finally in regard to compatibility, we can configure the site to any type of data file that your package spits out. In fact we already support a number of engine monitors. What do you have in your aircraft? Does it support data download? I will say that our primary objective at this point to to gain access to Mooney G1000 data files as operators of those aircraft have the most to gain given the full integration of data and the amount of data collected. -
Updates to CirrusReports (FlightData.com)

We have yet to receive any log files from Mooney operators. If you are interested in learning more check out the sample log data uploaded from operators of other supporter aircraft types here: https://flightdata.com/shared.php Having tracked your engine data will go a long way when it come time to sell and it’s free. Let me me know if you have any questions. -
Thanks for the help is solving the mystery! This marvelous piece of technology might be why our Hobbs doesn’t work.

I am looking forward to getting our GEM up and running properly so that I can to a proper lean check. I'm guessing either an injector swap or GAMI's will be in order, but once done, I look forward to running LOP. We also have a T210 that we run exclusively LOP without issue. Typical cruise power setting on that bird is 30" 2450RPM and 15.7GPH with TIT at about 1590F. It's probably about 10+KTS slower than running ROP but we love the economy. For the Mooney, it's about gaining payload as much as about lower cost per mile.

interesting.... the plot thickens... anyone else?

All great info. I can't wait to get her dialed in. We got really lucky, the previous owner put in a factory new engine/turbo at the end of 2016 and it now only has about 70hours on it total time.... so she is barely broken in. One of the reasons for the higher TIT setting is to get the rings seated.

Thanks for the info. I will have to check my manual in the plane but yours seems to match mine... I did the accuracy check and my was running close to 150 degrees low, so I was targeting something like 1450 on our TIT. The reality is that at 31/2300 you are only running like 72% power and so the redfin area is rather small... the red fin area doesn't begin until something like 68% power, if my memory serves me correctly. Our GEM 610 is not working properly so my first course of action will be to get a proper unit up and running so that I can do a gami check. We have a T210 that we exclusively run LOP and once I get the fuel injectors dialed, I plan to do the same with this monster.. happy to trade 15KTS for 4GPH.

Installed under the left wing. The POH mentions a landing gear safety switch built into the airspeed indicator which prevents the gear from retracting below something like 90KTS but it doesn't describe how it works. Is this related to that? Clearly a switch that activates at speed but I can't figure out what it's for. I don't recall the Ovation or Acclaim having this.

As for the back AI vs AOA discussion... I'll let you guys hash it out. In truth the most important variable in the safety debate is training. Both my partner and I are CFI's ATP's with 5K plus ours.... I think I'm up to 7K as of last month. We both have multiple training events per year in sim and aircraft... practicing all types of relevant abnormal/emergency procedures. Our SOP is to conduct a safety analysis prior to each flight looking at recency as much as equipment and weather.

I was using book numbers from the Rocket manual but I think I agree with you. TIT and CHT's were all within comfortable limits. Anyone have digital power tables for the rocket?
-
Thanks guys. I’m not sure if we are going to do anything beyond ads-b at this point. I fly about 700 hours a year so I feel pretty comfortable partial panel. Loving it it so far. Dropped her off at our normal shop in SMO but it’s becoming apparent that we need to use a Mooney specialist. I’m thinking we will use Lasar. As for the question about power setting, I think I was using 31” 2300rpm and 18.7gph.

Updates to CirrusReports (FlightData.com)
Gavin Woodman replied to Gavin Woodman's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Thanks guys. To get customized graphs for your aircraft all we reall need is a data log file and the type of avionics it’s coming from. The site is really helpful for dailing in engine set up, troubleshooting and frankly over the long run it will provide a historical pedigree of how your engine has been operated which will be awesome when it comes time to sell. -
Thanks. We love her. Another shot from a recent flight to ABQ, some before pics and a panel shot. Obviously she could use some love in the panel department but it’s adequate for now.

Fresh out of paint, our new to us Mooney Rocket. Mechanically she is sound but she will need some love getting the little bugs out. Flew her a couple of days ago at 12,500 doing 206KTAS. Got to love the speed. Anyway, new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. Gavin Woodman CFI/MEI/ATP AEROCOR.com FlightData.com
