I upgraded to an Aspen and removed the vacuum system from my 1989 M20J (28v system).  The attitude indicator and HSI were in working condition before they were removed. 

For sale (prices do not include shipping):

Bendix/King KG258 Horizon Gyro ($400).

Bendix King KI 525 HSI System with DG, Slaving Accessory ($900).
