  1. Well, I'm in Seattle now...next stop Alaska! hopefully...
  2. Thank you!! Yes, trying to get to the Reno air races if I can. If you hover over the media tab here...http://jethiking.com/ there are loads of pictures that are separated by the region, and I'm taking more every day I stopped in a Little Rock and Mena in Arkansas....kind of by accident. see this post: http://jethiking.com/jethiker-one-in-the-wrong-direction/
  3. Hi- Thanks to everyone on Mooney Space who have helped out with my airplane hitchhiking project! Since July 2012, I've been on 78 planes to 42 states.....and I'm still going! I've had to stop and find work where I landed a couple of times (when I ran out of $$), but otherwise I've been doing this nonstop. I'm sooo close to finishing this...writing my book....and getting my license but I need some help and suggestions for the two most difficult (Alaska and Hawaii). I'm in Cheyenne, WY and am trying to go to Utah and Alaska next...A few people have suggested hanging out in airports in Seattle. Are there any other places you think I should try? Does anyone know any organizations based in Alaska, or that fly frequently to Alaska that I should reach out to? Same goes for Hawaii, but I'll work on that later. Thanks for your tips! Amber PS here is the most recent news clip: http://www.kgwn.tv/story/23354512/airplane-hitchhiker-attempting-to-hit-all-50-states
  4. Hi Everyone! Sorry I've been MIA; it's getting difficult to update all the forums, but I wanted to let you know where I am these days with my airplane hitchhiking project! As of writing this, I just hitched a flight from Kitty Hawk to Norfolk, marking state #27. I am trying to head to New England next, hopefully Oshkosh in July and Alaska in August (somehow). For those of you who aren't familiar, I am a travel writer who is hitchhiking on general aviation planes in an effort to visit all 50 states. I started in July 2012 and am blogging about the adventure on JetHiking.com and a book is in the works. Speaking of the website, I just re-launched JetHiking.com so it should look much better on all those smartphones! I'm still working out a few kinks, but it's getting there. I also bought a Go Pro camera so I'll be video blogging very soon. I'm editing a hang gliding video right now. You can check out which states I've been to here: http://jethiking.com/about/what-is-jethiking/ I had a blast at Sun N Fun in April, and have been hanging out in South Florida for the month of May working as a bartender and as a deckhand on a sailboat so I have the funds for part two of the journey. Thanks to everyone who has helped with the trip and for all of your kind e-mails and support! The adventure continues.... Amber

  5. Hey everyone- I made it to Prescott Arizona from Burbank, CA in a Mooney! Thanks John & Kylie! Here is the article: http://www.dcourier.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubsectionID=1&ArticleID=114211 I'll probably be here in Arizona through the holidays...still working out where I'm headed next. Have a great Christmas/New Years! Amber
  6. No way! Wow, talk about a trek. I'm originally from Rochester My parents still live out in Geneseo. Does your trip take you to Northern Cali at all?
  7. I'm in San Francisco right now, but my flight on a Mooney fell though...still haven't been on one! I'm looking to head out of California the week of December 16. I'm trying to go to SoCal, Arizona and New Mexico but I will go anywhere I can! Check out the latest story on NBC's Today.com: http://todaytravel.today.com/_news/2012/11/06/14946755-hitching-around-america-one-free-flight-at-a-time?lite If anyone is flying out, let me know!
  8. So...a couple of quick updates...I'm still in Portland looking for a ride south but in the meantime I had the opportunity to take a flying lesson the other day.... And now I'm hooked and want to take another one The Seattle Times ran a story the other day on the trip: http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2019459023_hitchhiking18m.html and an OpEd http://seattletimes.com/html/edcetera/2019469236_early_retirement_take_it_in_yo.html
  9. Hey guys- Thanks for all the replies! I write a series of travel articles for JetSetter and 10Best.com along the way but this project is my own idea and I'm blogging about it. We have a few interested sponsors for the TV show but the production team is still setting that up. In the meantime, I'll be in Portland, OR next week and then I don't know where. I'm trying to get to California. It seems like that makes sense. If you know anyone based in that area, let me know
  10. Hi everyone! I am a travel writer who is "hitching" rides on private planes across the across US in an effort to visit all 50 states. I've done several so far (none on a Mooney), checked out Oshkosh, and plan on heading to the AOPA Aviation Summit in a few weeks. Right now, I'm heading to Las Vegas this week for an EAA get together. After that, I'm trying to zip around the west and knock out a few more states (maybe something close like Arizona or Utah). You can follow my trip on JetHiking.com (I'm blogging about it) and we are working on a PBS TV series. However, right now it's just me while we search for more sponsors for the show. If anyone can help me out in any of the western states (or elsewhere) please let me know! Thanks! Amber
