  1. I'm following a thread about Landing a Bravo. There have been a few posts since the afternoon of April 16th, however, when I click the thread it ends at that point and will not show any new posts. However, on the main menu page that just gives the title of the thread, I can see that people are sill posting? Any Ideas?
  2. Just learning from the thread as I don't have experience in Long Body Mooneys to contribute but I do have a question. Many techniques explained here are followed with the disclaimer "except in gusty conditions" Can someone give some advice as to a good technique (Speeds / flaps / w or w/o speed brakes) to use IN Gusty conditions? I'm in the process of purchasing a long body and should be picking it up in about a week and a half. I can't predict what the weather conditions will be like on my trip home so advice in this area would also be helpful to me. Thanks to everyone for all the techniques listed here already!
  3. Quote: fantom Good luck with your new baby. Looking forward to meeting you at a Florida Mooney luncheon soon.
  4. Quote: carusoam What is at the end of your 2,500' runway? My home drome is 3,000' long with extra grassy space and a cornfield at the end. There is much more comfort in having the extra space. If you are not off the ground by the 1/2 or you have not landed on the first 1/3rd, you have time and space to do something about it.... The runway ends allow for a little extra room, at least 500 feet on each end is just grass. After that a nice field on one end and a small lake on the other? I'm going to keep it at an airport with a larger runway for the first month or so and get used to it before bringing it in to the smaller airport. I'll report back and let you know if I decide to make it my home or not.
  5. 3 Blade! Thanks for the encouragement!
  6. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to bring the plane home and I'll most likely keep in Leesburg for the first month or so. I'll make sure I get proficient before bringing it over to the other airport. If you felt it was a no - go, I would just foget the idea and let the hanger go but based on this I'll hang onto it for a month or so and see how comfortable I get with shorter distances. The have plans to extend the runway to 2900 within the next year so hopefully I won't have to deal with it too long.
  7. I am going to be purchasing an M20R and was wondering about Landing Distances. There is a nearby airport with a 2500 ft runway that has a hanger I can rent. I went ahead and reserved it as it was the last one available. The runway is in very good condition with clean approaches on both ends. I'm wondering what realistic landing distances are in these planes and what some of you use for approach speeds and configurations in the M20R? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. Darren

  9. Thank for that input. My flights are very far. Most of my work is in Barbados, St. Lucia, Trinidad, St. Maarten, Bermuda, Etc. Barbados is 1800NM from my home in FL so I would be looking for a Fuel stop in Turks and Caicos and then on to Barbados. This is assuming I can make 900NM with some form of Long range fuel tank setup. If not, I'll have to plan two stops. Once in Barbados, Trips will reduce in length, except for Aruba, Curacao which far from there. As you can see with distances like that, I'm like the altitude for a margin of safety as well as the advantages you list. My only short trip will be to Nassau Bahamas. What kind of range can I realistically expect from the 231?
  10. Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to your forum. First, thank you for such a great forum! It really has a lot of great information on it for someone like myself. I am not currently a Mooney owner, but am looking to purchase a one as my next plane. This will be my fourth plane that I will own since I have been flying. Previous planes went from a Warrior to start, to an Arrow which build my Complex Time, to a Bellanca Super Viking in which I received my high performance ratings. My next plane however is going to be a Mooney as I have been sold on Mooneys since I first flew one in the 90's. All of my work is in the Caribbean so I will be flying over water most of the time. I am going back and forth between a 201 and a 231 model. I keep steering towards the 231's as I feel I will have more options for weather. I wanted to ask for opinions from some of you however as you are the ones flying these planes and can certainly advise me better regarding some advantages and disadvantages of either model. My budget is around 100K give or take a bit so I am looking in the 77 - 82 vintage years of either plane. Any advise would be appreciated and I'll look forward to hearing from you. Again, thanks for this forum, it's really great having a place to learn so much from about the planes we all love. Darren
