Having bought a set of Rosens, I asked about the cost, and they talked pretty candidly about it. The reason that they gave is that the FAA has deemed any permanent addition to your airframe is major alteration. They said that they tried to get the FAA to approve their systems it as a minor change, but the FAA was unwavering. So, overhead of dealing with STCs, the FAA, maintaining their certifications, all made in the USA, yada yada etc are the reasons they gave. Not sure I believe all of it and that a certain amount isn't just "Aviation Markup" but that said, I don't doubt that there's some truth to that. I certainly debated just buying something off of ebay and throwing it in. But I'm pretty happy with my Rosens for the most part. If I ever need a replacement, I'll take a look back at these.
