  1. I had the same issue. Tested the alternator and battery, everything was okay. The A&P adjusted the old voltage regulator and it didn't work. I just ended up buying a Zeftronics regulator, no issues since.
  2. The gauge was working prior to install.
  3. The USB has always worked. The breaker only pops when I connect the wire to the fuel pressure gauge and turn on master. If I remove the wire from the gauge, it doesn't pop and USB works fine. It's a 12v system.
  4. I have a panel mounted USB charger that has a 5 AMP circuit breaker. The USB worked correctly. A&P installed a fuel pressure gauge, since I didn't have one, I have the EDM 830 but wanted a pressure gauge also. I'll try to disconnect the wire from the transducer to see if it still pops. Thank you,
  5. Hello, I had an A&P install a fuel pressure gauge that came off a 80s model M20J on my 83 M20J. The reason being was that the stock fuel pressure gauge was removed when the panel was redone and a EDM 830 was installed. Attached is a photo of the back of the gauge. The power wire is coming from the USB breaker to (IGN) side. The center nut has a wire from the transducer and a ground wire, that is grounded to the screw on the airframe. The nut on the left side of photo is the other wire from transducer. Every time I turn on the master, the breaker on the USB pops. I tried several different grounds and it still pops every time the master is turned on. Is the wiring correct? The gauge is installed on the plastic area next to flap switch, so the housing for the gauge is not mounted to metal. Thank you,
  6. Thank you very much.
  7. Does anyone know the part number for this fuel drain valve? Or a good replacement one. It's one of the ones on the bottom of the wings, not the belly. I looked in the parts catalog and couldn't figure out which one it is (Dukes or Christopher). I have an 83 M20J. Thanks,
  8. Yes, I do have vacuum speed brakes. It goes towards center of fuselage and towards the general area where speed brakes are located on the wings.
  9. Hello, would like help to identify a steel braided cable. The plastic coating has come off in some areas and it looked like it was painted over when plane was repainted. Located in the left and right wing wheel well of both mains. It is circled in red. Thank you.
  10. Thank you everyone for the help. It was the the voltage regulator that was going bad. Alternator was at 14.3V with engine running. Change out the VR to a Zeftronics R15300 and it is constant at 14V now.
  11. It was running at 14.1-14.3 V when I left home airport, then high/low annunciator flashing light in cruise. Then landed at another airport about 2 hrs away, volts dropped down to 12.5- 12.1V, and high/low light stayed flashing all way back home. Ammeter was discharging on way there and charging when I was flying back. Has a brand new Concord battery that is on a Battery Minder.
  12. Anyone have a Zeftronics R15300 voltage regulator for sale? Adjusted the vr as per the service manual and on a flight yesterday, the volts were initially going to 14.2 V and down to 12.2 V on cruise. High/low voltage light kept flashing on annunciator panel.
  13. I have an 83J with a EDM 830 installed. With the engine running and while in flight, the volts read 12.9 -13.2, this is also the same while on the ground with master turned on. The ammeter needle jumps around while in flight but settles to center. The plane has a brand new Concorde battery that was replaced 2 months ago and it's on a Battery Minder when hangered. Does anyone know if the EDM830 measures the battery voltage or the system while charging? From what I've found, the voltage should be higher with engine running than 13.2. I was going to check the ground cable on the battery and clean it, then the voltage regulator. It has been over 14 years since the alternator and voltage regulator has been changed. But the log book entries doesn't specify the make or model that were used. If I do need an alternator or voltage regulator, what is recommended? I was looking at the Zeftronics vr but did not know the specific model number. Thanks,
  14. Hello all, I recently had my vacuum pump replaced in my 83 M20J with an overhauled Tempest pump. After starting it up today, I noticed a large puddle of oil coming from the front nose gear door area. I took off the top cowling and noticed oil near the vacuum pump, near where it bolts onto the engine and below it. I checked all of the nuts on the pump and it was tight. The A&P also put a new gasket when replacing the pump. I checked the oil and noticed there was almost none left. During preflight, there was 6 quarts. Any suggestions on what it could be? Thanks.
  15. Hello all, I recently purchased a 83 M20J. Once I got it back home, I noticed it did not have a fuel pressure gauge. The panel was redone about 2 years ago and the only gauges that remain are the fuel quantity gauges. I have a JPI EDM830 but it does not read the fuel pressure. Could I swap out the manifold pressure gauge from a M20F that has both manifold/fuel pressure readings and install it in my J? I don't want to get another gauge if I don't have to because I don't want to cut into the panel. Thanks in advance.
  16. Hello all, I'm looking for an A&P to do a pre purchase inspection in the Austin, Texas area within the first few weeks of January. Called several places, SWTA and Dugosh and they are not available. Can anyone recommend an A&P that is familiar with Mooneys. I am purchasing an M20J. Thanks,
  17. I'm looking at the M20Js and came across one that has turbo. For those who have owned one or flown one, what are the pros and cons for a turbo M20J?
  18. Hello, I'm looking to purchase a M20J, which is currently located in Mena, Arkansas. Can anyone recommend an A&P familiar with M20 that can do a pre-buy inspection that is close to the area? Thanks,
