Had an epiphany late last night and confirmed the issue today after replacing a failed aircraft jack. It seems that the main gear shock discs are worn out enough that the weight on wheel switch can make contact when the gear is in transition in flight and with a wind load pushing the main tires back. This is causing the gear to not fully retract after takeoff, but is not a problem when on jacks. While retracting today, pushing on the tire causes the gear to hault retraction. Time for some new shock discs…. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have the belly open now and on jacks. Pulling on the gear (with as much force as I dare) when up does not seem to affect the switch. The gear does move slightly downward due to the bungee tension as I would expect as they do not have a load when up per the MM. There must be a huge amount of force when in air for it to flex…. Thinking about it now, there may be just enough movement from the bungees to where a slight gap opens in the gear doors causing an exaggerated flex once air starts rushing in. What I am looking for is any one else that may have experienced the same or near same thing, and it there were any parts replacements that eliminated the issue. I’m kind of expecting to have to replace all of the rod ends. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wanted to create a new topic as an offshoot to “slowest Mooney M20F ever”. A recent picture on a high speed pass shows that my landing gear is flexing downward in flight at higher speeds causing a huge airspeed loss. My gear is rigged per the book with some but minimal clearance to the bumpers when up. The doors are snug and seemingly flush when up on jacks. On takeoff when the gear is selected up, the gear up light comes on as it should. In flight and at speeds seemingly above 110 kts, even when in level flight, the gear up light goes off indicating that all the gear linkage up to the motor is flexing. Has anyone had any experience with this? Maybe due to the doors being too tight and having a slight bow causing suction? Worn out heim bearings and linkages? Issues with the motor and worm gear (they were recently inspected per the AD)? See pictures below. In a few days I will remove the gear doors and fly without them to see if the issue goes away to prove if the doors or gear linkages are at fault. See pictures below taken at around 130 kts. Everything looks good on jacks. In the Maintenance Manual the spring tension (bungee) and tool torque relates to gear down. For gear up, the manual has you referencing the stops and checking the spacing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Winner winner chicken dinner! Below is from today’s low pass at speed (my pregnant wife being the camera operating victim. The gear light does go off at higher power settings….because the gear is being sucked down! I rigged them per the book where they are just missing the stops… should they be rigged to where they are against the stops with the bungees under tension? In flight at a lower altitude, I was able to get 145kts with a lot of left rudder in a slip. It also accelerated by 7 knots in a left turn. So I’ll tackle the gear first, then will see about rigging. Interesting. I’ve been through the book and there’s no mention of it. There was a factory repair of the wing in 1972 for some undisclosed reason, but no mentor replacement ailerons. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If the aileron weights being streamlined is a 0 indication, then my ailerons are rigged slightly up where the book says they should be 0 to 2 deg down…. The flaps are contacting the wing to body fairing so I’m not sure how much more up I can go with them but I’ll give it a shot. My step is fixed unfortunately and is not removable unless I drill some rivets. Below are some pictures for reference. Will hit up Kleen. Are or were you a Gulfstreamer? I am a COR rep on the large cabins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That would be awesome! I am near Savannah at a fly in community called Eagleneck 1GA0. A rigging party would be great, as I can make copies rather quickly and could possibly trade your time/ equipment usage for Avionics installation (I do avionics installs out of my hangar). Do you know if your boards are GSE #030003? Not sure if the C and F are interchangeable. I go to Atlanta regularly for family as well so could hit you up there if not here. Had some better results on today’s flight with higher power settings and after tweaking the pitot system. I can see there is still a slight slow leak that may be emanating from the single piece of old tubing that I neglected to replace from the cabin to the pitot tube. I’ll be replacing it in the future. That, along with bad math and higher than reasonable hopes is likely my largest discrepancy. The plane still requires slight right rudder to hold true so I may be loosing some speed from rigging issues. I’ll need a set of boards to see exactly where things are I think. I have a digital inclinometer, but without knowing exactly where 0 should be I’m only guessing/ assuming. As well, when I did the panel upgrades, I removed tons of wiring, tubing, AP systems, etc etc which pushed the CG forward a bit. I’ll keep tweaking and testing until I’m either satisfied or bored…lol. Thank you for all the suggestions and advice. I’ll be considering all of them as I continue to work on and enjoy this aircraft. Below is a before picture from when I purchased the plane earlier this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My light goes out after a certain power setting. I do plan to rig a camera to check the gear in case there’s any deflections, however, there is also the manual gear indicator on the floor that shows the gear is not moving from the up position. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Must be talking about Mr Kleen! Love it here! Yeah, I can probably get someone to do a formation, that would be a good idea. I’ve been setting the plane up on my test flights to match the book target at 2500 rpm 21-22 MP for the most part. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have not flown a similar plane unfortunately but would love to have that opportunity! My last Mooney was a C model with the O-320 and it was faster…smh. That was many years ago though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would tend to agree with you, but my pitot static was checked and signed off with myself involved only 2 months ago. There was a leak found but subsequent fixed. Plus, the ground speed doesn’t lie and has been consistent with the TAS and indicated wind speed. I would love it if that were the case! My ADSB tracks confirm my ground speeds as well. I doubt they are, but my worry is that they are flexing and causing a gap at the leading edge of the door. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2 things I may try when able: #1 add weight to the baggage area. #2 remove the landing gear doors and make a flight without them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It seems normal. RPM maxes at 2680-2690. with around 30 MP. Field elevation is 10ft and today at least was in the low 70s. GPH I honestly have not noted on takeoff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The left gear does seem to protrude a tad lower than the right when retracted but I’ve confirmed both are equal distance from the stops. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No issues in climb as far as I can tell. It’ll climb at near 1500fpm although the cylinder temps aren’t allowing me to keep that angle for long. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
