  1. Oh Snap you got a website now eh? I used mooney pros as sourced through the forums here. Got all the value I could ever hope for and more last month bringing the J home.
  2. This is precisely how i saw it it. Thanks!
  3. Technically tailbeacon X is the full mode s transponder, the tailbeacon is the adsb only version.... Which the latter is what i'm looking for.
  4. Yeah sorry should have been more clear on that
  5. Working please, I assume yall wouldn't sell me a dead one.
  6. Aaaaaand I'm lost. But that's OK... More reason to research what the heck yall referring to.
  7. It does go real fast... I mean I had only ever flown a 152... So yeah. But I was getting 155-160kn ias on what the questionable flowmeter said was 9.5gph.
  8. What's going on with these? High failure rates or what? I need a temp solution for adsb until panel in 24-36 months and this has me nervous about used tailbeacon.
  9. I don't think mine has ever been touched but aelerons are about quarter inch up on both sides. Dan Bass pointed it out on our flights. But it seems to fly straight (not what I was focused on). So probably leave it unless it becomes an issue. Just interesting to hear it's supposed to be down a few degrees not up
  10. Fundamentally yes. Corp ownership, personal lease. Multiple llcs at play here so if used for one of the business can invoice the business as necessary. Keeps record keeping lighter (as personal is a majority), while netting important tax benefits. I need someone who understands to avoid the traps and the big bad gubbermint.
  11. Thats what I was trying to allude to. The hsi was the head scratcher. Also I'm ignorant of the controls for free / slave toggle and cw / ccw controls pictured under the elt toggle. I've no idea what is is or how. But I do knoe it will drive it clockwise and counter.
  12. I'm 85 as well, prob finished in 84 24-1506
  13. I made a plan with the tax consultant today. But the legal side of the dry lease back to protect against the flight dept trap and other common screwuos is important enough for me to consult with someone who knows how to structure the lease documentation correctly. Tax wise we got a plan. Just need to make it legal
  14. Point one above taken Point two above, the king ap still turns the yoke pretty hard. I think it might work but I also believe it works off the attitude indicator which didn't work because dead pump? Also the hsi, kinda worked? I'm still not sure and the cfi was scratching a bit, because it's electric I think. More to determine there. It definitely didnt follow anything of consequence though. Point 3 above, the egt apparently works. Not sure if accurate? The cht well it's just an analog line and it barely tics off the min on climb and cruise.... Soooo maybe as they say "my plane ran fantastic until I got a engine monitor"
  15. I think long term I want to just go the dynon route and have a lifetime plane. One upgrade to rule them all, get it right once. Pay the tears once. But I want adsb now until that time comes like 24 months so I need a used tailbeacon.
  16. I mean I bought it 15 months ago. I think I did at the time. Here's two from flying cloud when I dropped off the Mooney pros guy after transition training a couple weeks ago BTW shout out to Mooney pros. Fantastic service and even better value.
  17. Aaaaaand after segregation and review by the apia, she sent this note with this estimate of what truly needs done We have an altimeter that passes tests for $550.00, we will need the encoder and I found one for $350. I took all the parts to cost to help you out. I found a tail beacon for $1430.00 on Ebay, I didn't add it yet. EST 25-7964 Revised 11-10-2025.pdf
  18. This is all great advice. Much of what was mentioned here exists. I couldn't be happier with the apia. Completely fair and transparent. The purchase of this plane was not handled as I would have liked. It got a thorough log review, extended relationship and review with the apia that worked on it from 1993, and a second log opinion from lance. But for all intents and purposes was a gamble buy. Got a smokin deal at the time on a plane that had a new engine / prop (hours), and the rest was pretty as is, buy now or it gets repo'd. The 25k was max expected labor, and retail / oem new parts. (I'm looking at you Mooney(lasar) landing light switch $500). I'm getting a new one this week with some deferred maintenence. But you guys seem to give shit to owners who defer so I was trying to not be cheap and fix almost all of it. However, she said the NG was the tightest she'd had come in that hadn't had work done. But it still had some play at the bushing so she listed it but said np and waiting we would just keep an eye on it. No one is going to pay 3500 to overhaul an encoding alt. We are going to get an encoder separate for example. I've attached the original quote. I've heard some is high, some is low, overall it's fair. Excluding what is obviously not going to get done, she's working on alternatives and I'll get them this week. I'll attach that when it comes in. Lastly she's completely happy with me sourcing all my own parts to help costs. As long as they are compliant. She also invited me to participate in all work and annuals going forward. She feels owners who are informed make better customers when it's time to fix something. EST 25-7964 Original 11-7-2025(1).pdf
  19. I am in need of an aviation attorney to help me set up a proper dry lease for my corporate structure ownership of my plane. Can anybody recommend an attorney who knows the current regulatory requirements to help protect myself? If it matters it's likely to be owned in an Indiana LLC but stored in Illinois hangar.
  20. So craziness I took my plane to a relatively local mechanic to do work you guys might have seen the recent posts. I get there and there's another Mooney entering the pattern 5 Mi behind me which just blew my mind. Then I get inside their single hanger and there's two more Moonies inside which is crazy for Pekin Illinois. And then last Friday I landed Champaign Illinois from a work trip and there's a Mooney sitting out front of the FBO . And I'm starting to begin to think that there's a ton of these I just wasn't paying attention.
  21. Let's be clear I was expecting damage. Was thinking something in the 15k range. But I won't be taking it anywhere else. I love this shop and I'm being treated with respect and from what I can tell fairly. I knew what I was getting into. However, I am seeking feedback and getting quality advice on how to mitigate or spread out some damage.
  22. I'm happy to share the list, should I redact anything for professionalism? Its an 85J They did explain it all but I was walking through airport and didn't get everything jotted. Front NGhas some play but tightest they have ever had come in that wasn't worked on. NG pucks has (insert compression) that was just barely out of spec. Mains were very compressed as an eng it was a lot but don't remember the number. Mains had cracks. All were from '93. Lots of little stuff
  23. Soooo, I got my first estimate for my plane after picking it up 3 weeks ago. A whopping 25k. To be fair it's priced at full retail not used parts or viable alternatives. It also includes many things the A&P said can definitely wait, but is a comprehensive list of everything they found. But wowzers. She was good if I wanted to Source some of my own parts to help save money. Gear pucks quoted at $287/ea, where yall buying yours? Tailbeacon quoted $2200 anyone got a used one? Other big item, encoding alt needs overhaul (3k), might as well throw it away and get alternative plus separate encoder?
  24. A part of me thinks I needs this. Then the other part says I have too much shit I don't need any more.
  25. So by now you probably all know I bought an 85j that sat for more than 15 years before being flown 8 hours to sit another 15 months before being flown 10 hours a week ago to my latest location and back i asked for some more details and pictures and this is what I got asked for some more details and pictures and this t what the engine overhaul mechanic said he did to the internals of this engine. Something about I don't have to worry about the corrosion because it got a graphite Magnesium phosphate matrix. I asked for some more details and pictures. https://www.parkerhq.com/parco-lubrite-phosphate-conversion The latest mechanic did take the plugs out in borescope the cylinders and said it looks great but we didn't take a jug off. I also included some sexy engine shots that I took this morning
