  1. Sounds like great and very practical advice - thank you! Will talk to my A&P.
  2. Certainly with you there... I do have second VOR - legacy Narco 122 Nav.
  3. Bull's eye! I'm one of those g IFR flyers, with just a few months of IFR rating... :-) Thank you for advice!
  4. With you there! That's why I got GFC500... And even then I did weigh $$ vs benefit. Benefit is tremendous, and I'm glad I did it. There's no comparison to how I flew w/ my old S-Tec 40 and now. On the other hand - radio or GPS failure in my mind leads to immediate need of getting out of IMC as quickly as possible, and having ability to talk to tower or CTAF to land. Having secondary COM/GPS is very convenient in THAT EVENT, but does not really provide as high a guarantee as dual magnetos do for continued flight, for instance. Electrical failure risk remains, and it feels to me (perhaps incorrectly) it is likelier scenario than failures as seemingly narrow as radio/GPS (b/c alternator is mech device I guess?)... If I could have purely emergency cover for both that is also inexpensive - I would just continue enjoying failure free so far flying w/o large expense. Hence my hesitation. It is obvious, however, that options eval does continue in my mind! ;-) Itching to spend =)
  5. How much $$ is it reasonable to continue pouring into over 60-year old plane? ;-) After GFC500 upgrade, which I find invaluable, I'm in the territory where 100% of further improvement expense is unrecoverable, vs typical 50%... Stacking that against the reason you gave is my challenge.
  6. Got IFR just 3 months ago, but am already flying a good mix VFR/IFR...
  7. My relatively updated panel (GTN650, GFC500, dual G5s, GTX345) has only one comm/nav provided by GTN. I had outdated second comm before getting my GFC AP, and did not want to spend $$ on moving it around, thinking I'd rather get something nicer later. Now, after flying like this for a year, I'm hesitant spending any more $$. Feel comfy as is, and carry handheld as a backup (which will have to do in any event in case of power failure). Any thoughts on what would justify another bundle of greens on 2nd comm?
  8. This set https://www.knots2u.net/hub-cap-w-access-door-6-wheel-set-of-two-lsm-200-701-1/ looks great, but how does one get around the issue of nipples hard pressed against wheel bearing cover? So far - I couldn't check tire pressure or inflate wo removing wheel cover AND bearing cover. With that - these will not help? Or did you have different experience/figured something out?
  9. http://www.dallascustomsteeringwheel.com/ Radio button I found @wingsandwheels.com Momentary PTT switch for $9, but I don't see it on their site anymore...
  10. Just for everyone to see my final result - here's how my yokes now look.
  11. Anyone interested: here's what I got (and this is where I got it: https://wingsandwheels.com/momentary-ptt-switch.html). I had to grind bottom part to fit into the hole from old vacuum switch
  12. Anyone who used this M20C original yoke and installed PTT in place of the old PC button - what's the diameter and depth of that hole? Need that to figure which PTT will fit in it ...
  13. See it now! You did it after leather work? Which button? Also - what will you use to cover the opening?
  14. How did you add it? Using that existing button? Don't see any wires on your photo...
  15. Just spoke to my IA - he says that button is air, not electric. It used to rely on vacuum system, which I'm missing since my seller moved to all Garmin. This means - can't be really used for anything, so either have to leave it for show, or remove and cover w leather... Another option IA suggested - get another yoke like the passenger side I've got in this pair. Sounds like best approach to me - just need yet another yoke...
  16. On another note - need to figure how to cover opening from removed chronometer before sending yokes in ...
  17. Thank you for answering! Everyone is raving about him - and it does look fantastic in your photo! It is certainly an option - I'm just looking at all options, and it appears some significantly cheaper options looking very nice are also available.
  18. Thank you for answering. I do know many prefer this option, and that's what I have on mine at the moment (came from previous owner). Need to re-fresh - it's coming apart. Mulling this option too...
  19. Looks extremely attractive - looks really nice! Thank you. Price is a bit on a high end.
