  1. What are other Mooney Turbo owners doing about AD 2023 09-09? My parts are on order. It has been over 2 years since this AD came out and no qualified clamps have been produced or available for purchase (at least my sources say so). Yeah, you can get AMOC, but the criteria for that waiver does not apply to my plane (1979 M20K). Apparently my clamps may be 46 years old. It appears I am grounded until next spring when the required parts are then available! Maybe. I’m a CFI and ardently support compliance with all FAA directives. But this is ridiculous. This didn’t just happen, the industry & the FAA have know about this for years. & now I’m grounded. Grrrrrrrrre……
  2. The POH in Chapter 2 a note states “except for takeoff, fuel in the selected tank can be safely used until the quantity indicator reads empty …” OK, what’s the minimum fuel for takeoff (or more likely a go around/missed approach) in a selected tank that can be safely used? 30 gallons (probably a lot less)? 5 gallons? I’ve never flown with that little fuel, & don’t intend to do so, but I’d like to know. After diverting to an alternate, I could imagine having only 10 gallons left ( 1 hour). Maybe 9 & 1 (& feeding off the 9) would be a safer go around than 5 & 5 in each tank (still allowing for one hour of fuel remaining). Someone told me 6 gallons was the minimum, but I can’t find that written anywhere.
  3. Recently had a complete avionics install. Initially it worked fine, however after a few weeks we get a message stating “AHRS magnetic anomaly-check installation” The shop is very cooperative in doing their warranty work. They feel there is some electronic interference occurring and plan on moving the location of the magnetometer. They are good avionics mechanics, but not Mooney specialists. Anyone else experience this?
  4. Thanks, we’re in touch. LOL, my call sign in the USAF was VanGo. Changed my unit, but everyone still knew me as VanGo. Call sign had to change, so my last call sign was Vincent. I’m using Parker Woodruff now, but haven’t signed anything yet. Who’s your recommendation? excited about my new ride! V
  5. This might work! I do have another CFI, but we are not certain as to his availability. I’m thinking this could be about Jan 26 or Feb 2. My name is Van Davis. I’m a former USAF pilot (B-52s & FB-111s) ~5000 hrs, CFI/CFII ~1200 GA hrs, 1000 hrs CFI & current 1 hr in a M20J I should hear back this week from the insurance Co on how much time they require A previous quote was 2 hrs I’ll probably want a little more before I bring it back to NC. My email is vaninthemtns@gmail.com & my mobile phone number is 73-347-2896 Lets stay in touch Van
