201er Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 For you Mooniac parrotheads out there, here are my parrots flying a Mooney up and down the Hudson: And if you like parrots or NYC, here is some sightseeing with the famous parrots (cool night flying shot at the end of the first one): 3 Quote
jetdriven Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 So what does a parrot squawk on an IFR flight plan? 3 Quote
robert7467 Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 What would you do if he tried to bite your ear off on short final? Quote
Marauder Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 What would you do if he tried to bite your ear off on short final? Or if he yelled "altitude, altitude"? Quote
yvesg Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Wife finds them cute 201er... soon, I will show you my beagles.. they can actually fly the plane. Yves Quote
PTK Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 That's what you get when you cross a parrot with a homing pigeon? A homing parrot. This the original ADF! (Amazing Darwin's Finch!) Hey Mike, can they navigate fowl weather! Always wondered where that Mooney logo came from! Quote
carusoam Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Do they fly around the cockpit? In IMC? IRP- if the bird has a rating... -a- Quote
Marauder Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 I wonder if this is how Noah got started... Quote
PTK Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 I wonder if this is how Noah got started... In fact Marauder it is! They were Noah's Dodo Birds, or NDB's! These together with the Amazing Darwin's Finches, or ADF's as they're commonly known, are almost extinct. But as we all know from basic high school biology, through adaptation and natural selection they have evolved into the modern day species, Galapagos Penguins of the Sky, aka GPS! 2 Quote
fantom Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Are they members of the mile high club yet? Quote
Marauder Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Are they members of the mile high club yet? If they are and they are both girls, 201er got some explaining to do! Quote
FloridaMan Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 Not to derail your thread, but one thing I notice about the NYC airspace is the complete lack of GA aircraft matching proportionality anywhere close to what we have in FL. Quote
201er Posted May 9, 2013 Author Report Posted May 9, 2013 Are you kidding me? I went during a non-busy time to shoot the parrot video but I've flown the Hudson corridor with a dozen other aircraft (mainly helicopters) in the same 5 mile stretch. I've had times when you could barely see the moving map on WingX cause the ADSB traffic was burying it. And the departure delays at Farmingdale and Tetereboro on a Friday night are insane. Friend said he was #30 for departure. Quote
aviatoreb Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Not to derail your thread, but one thing I notice about the NYC airspace is the complete lack of GA aircraft matching proportionality anywhere close to what we have in FL. I flew the Hudson corridor once 4 years ago with a friend in his 172. It was quite an experience. It was very very busy. Yes mostly helicopters but not entirely. Be sure to brief at a local fbo or flight school on the unusual but necessary safety rules of that specific airspace before you attempt it. Quote
201er Posted May 10, 2013 Author Report Posted May 10, 2013 Don't bother trying to talk to someone about it. Take the FAA Safety course online and refer to the AOPA page about it. They won't lead you astray with nonsense like the locals. Take it from one https://www.faasafety.gov/gslac/ALC/course_content.aspx?cID=79 http://www.aopa.org/advocacy/articles/2009/091117hudsonsfra.html https://www.faasafety.gov/files/gslac/courses/content/79/776/kneeboard.pdf Quote

What about the transient route? Do you have to worry about turbulence from the buildings? Quote
