gregwatts
If I am not mistaken, most if not all of these are "contract" towers.
bd32322
Is it true that the military use a different frequency range than civilian traffic? A dual use airport's control tower is likely to be closed here in Massachusetts and I was wondering how both parties are going to communicate .. Prolly the civilians get banned
M20E-1964
Dont see XFL on there. Am I the only one that thinks this is good news? I hate dealing with my tower. Nice people and all, but the airport functioned just fine before they were there.

Nice people and all, but the airport functioned just fine before they were there. Agree with you 100%. At some airports you are better off with no tower. Specially when you are on short final and the tower tells you to go around because there is a jet 5nm behind you. José
1964-M20E
I'm not happy but not mad about the closures either and most of the towers being closed we can do without. Two on the list are airports I regularly fly to. It is what it is and we need to trim the Fed Gov't. Unfortunately they always want to trim the very visible items first and leave the fat hogs in the rear that do very little alone.
fantom
Are these tower closures going to be permanent or just temporary? I couldn't find an answer via a quick Google search. Thanks! Jim Not finding answers to simple questions the press never bothers to ask of Washington....I'm shocked
fantom
Reminds me of our recent discussion at KOCF, Ocala, Jim. How many taxpayer millions have been burned in the last year or two on unneeded towers and runway extentions? Stamping out waste, fraud, in government handouts would probably cure deficit spending....oh, no, back to politics.
FloridaMan
I was surprised to see KORL on there with the amount of jet traffic and busy airspace. Won't be long until jets start having to go around because someone in a Cessna 152 cuts under the airspace and cuts off an approach.

Prolly the civilians get banned A long, long, time ago when I was in the AF (25 years ago) some military aircraft had both VHF and UHF. Others had only UHF. It was mostly fighters and trainers that had only UHF because of limited space. Bob
mooniac15u
I don't think they closed any of them. They posted that list last year during the early stages of the sequester and then suspended the closures when they were given more leeway with their budget phasing.
