bd32322 Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 On a recent check my two VOR course indicators/selectors were off by 10 degrees in flight when tuned to the same VOR. Anybody had a similar situation and what did you do to diagnose the problem? First i am going to check with a VOT to find out which one is faulty, then I am not sure...
rob Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 I would use a GPS to determine which one is correct and then take it to my avionics shop with that information.
N201MKTurbo Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 I believe that some of the newer VOR heads have resistive resolvers with wipers like a potentiometer. it may help to just spin the OBS 10 or 20 revolutions in each direction to clean the wipers. Otherwise you can adjust them yourself, which is not necessarily legal, or take them to an avionics shop. If there are no other issues an adjustment is usually $50 - $100

wiguy Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 I did an airborne check the other day with an airway & a major intersection off a sectional chart. It should be pretty easy to figure out which one, hopefully, is correct.
N201MKTurbo Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 You can use your portable GPS to get the bearing to the VOR, that is what it should read.
