12 killed in jump plane crash @ Butler, Missouri

Tragedy today @ KBUM with presumably 11 paying customers in a jump plane crash (I think the N number is N221BN).

This is an airport I know very well. The skydiving operation has had some problems, including crashing a King Air into the roof of a hangar last year.

The link requires pop-up ads. 

And I'm not against Reuters or anyone else having ads for their online posts.  But I just won't do anything that has the pop-ups all over the article.  A lot of sites have the ads to the side, which is fine by me.  

From another site I read this morning, **the article** said the pilot tried to "turn around and return to the airport."  This was right after takeoff, so possibly an impossible turn...  But we'll have to wait for the official report to know what really happened.  Lots of fields there, so hopefully they'll say why straight ahead wasn't an option.

Sorry about that. The Reuters link was the first one I saw. I use a pi-hole that blocks ads, and I had no idea that there were ads on the link.

The only really notable thing to me with this crash is that the aircraft had only been with the company for about ten days (per the ASN link above). I suspect that lack of familiarity with aircraft systems will be an area of focus for the investigators.

Thinking about this terrible crash...Could be that there was a loss of power on take off and turn described was pilot trying the Impossible turn and stalled. with little altitude , stall recovery is not possible. Anyway...just a guess for a possible scenario.

Always a possibility, but one of the several articles I read said they were trying to land on a road. It didn't say which road, where it was, etc.; it may well have been Choice #2 when the pilot realized he couldn't make it back to the runway . . .

I have known skydiver pilots who fly with minimum fuel to maximize their load. They barely carry enough to get to altitude. I wonder if they were doing this and forgot to fuel the plane before the flight and just ran out of fuel.

Sort of a choice if you want big brother to choose what goes on in your machine or if you want it a little (granted, only a little ) more open so you pick what blocks the ads for you.
