Can anyone confirm which is better, a Mooney or a Comanche?

Clarence

Welcome back my friend! We have missed you.

Things are a lot more civil here than before.

Ditto on your return! That IO-720 purring again?

Yes, it’s running well.  It ate its camshaft during my hiatus.  The repair bill was memorable.

Well, according to lore, the Comanche was copied from the Mooney when Piper couldn't cut a deal to buy the design in order to get a leg up on adding a modern, all-metal retractable to it's lineup. The planforms sure look alike if you overlay them, including the forward swept wing. They both have laminar flow wings, but different airfoils, and the Comanche uses the same airfoil for the entire span while the Mooney changes airfoil from root to tip. Of course, John Thorpe couldn't resist putting his stabilator on the Comanche tail. I never met an owner of either that didn't like their airplane. I'd say it's a tossup.

Good to have you back, Clarence.

Now now that was my dad back in the 80’s and Comanche hadn’t brought out the 400 yet. My neighbor has a 400 and it hauls ass but we don’t look at the ff meter.

CLARENCE!!

You did a pre-buy on a J up in Canada and made it pretty obvious that I should not buy the plane.  I did not. I bought a different J and it turned out GREAT, after some TLC.  Thank you for steering me in the right direction.

I hope you haven't been lurking too much as I may have referred to the Comanche as "the fat man's Mooney" but that is only because I'm jealous.

Welcome back, please hang around :)

If you had asked “Can anyone confirm which is better, a Mooney or a Comanche 400 with an 8 cylinder IO-720?”, I bet you might have gotten many of the MS faithful to say “Commanche”…

Clarence, Mooneyspace felt it when you departed.  I can't tell you how many times I have searched for something and found a very helpful reply from "Guest".  Welcome back
