FlyboyKC Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 I am researching doing a panel upgrade in my 68 M20G. I currently have a Garmin 430W with a Garmin G5 as the PDU, and a King HSI. In my quest I was thinking starting with a new autopilot and then working towards the panel that would be compatible with the autopilot. My thoughts were a Garmin Autopilot, with a GTN750, and a second G5 to replace the HSI or a Garmin Glass panel. I am open to the Dynon Glass panel, as long as I can find an auto pilot compatible with it. I also would want to upgrade my engine monitor to something more robust. I am open to all thoughts and consideration. I have seen some posts with pictures of panels, I would welcome more of those pictures so I see what possibilities exist. Thanks Neal
Max Clark Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 @FlyboyKC starting with the autopilot is a great place... it will make more decisions for you than you would expect. Options that I'm aware of: Garmin GFC 500 Dynon SkyView HDX is certified C-F, J, and K. IIRC the G might be covered, but you're going to have check that Genesys S-TEC 3100 After flying G1000 w/ GFC 700 I wanted to go with the GFC 500 (not having a Dynon option also made that easier). This quickly pushed me into GTN navigator, and the G5 and G3x combo. The 275 is great and typically used where you're not fully Garmin behind it (Avidyne navigators and other autopilots for example). I would imagine going Dynon would put you into the Dynon displays and accouterment, while the S-TEC would give you loads of other options. I switched from the OG engine gauges + JPI EDM 730 to the Garmin EIS. Garmin's EIS is great, but I find myself missing the dedicated EDM. I've seen 3x 275 (AI, HSI, & EIS) setups and they look great. I've flown dual G5s and found it to be incredibly capable. Going to a full size PFD will just give you more screen, more options, more info. I don't love pulling up plates on my 750, but they're great split screen on the G3x. I went pretty extreme on the panel cleanup and moved to a remote audio interface and transponder integrated on the 750. Sometimes I miss the buttons on the PMA, but I had to make trades. I also elected to use the GNC for a secondary NAV/COMM. No regrets there at all. Happy to answer any specifics. 3
hammdo Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 Dynon now has AP for the Mooney so, AeroCruze 100 also works with it… -Don

toto Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 I went the same direction as many others. All Garmin. G3X with EIS, G5, GTN, GMA, GTX, GFC. I kept a KX-155 and indicator for my backup navcomm, so that’s the only part of my panel that doesn’t have a big G on it 2

So the options are the Garmin GFC 500 and the Bendix King Aerocruze 100.
KSMooniac Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 I find it very odd that Dynon did not include the G since they have short and medium bodies as well as the 180 HP - 200 (or 210) HP variants covered. I cannot think of a reason why it would not be covered on their AML. It might be worth a call directly to them to ask if you're serious about a full upgrade. Otherwise Garmin is the only integrated solution. The Aerocruze will work with Dynon I believe, but it is a bit kludgy. STEC has exited the space for us, unfortunately, and Avidyne never finished their autopilot program that was reportedly quite a good kit for the Bonanzas. (Long ago I wished they would've merged with Aspen to make both stronger and compete with big G, but I fear that ship has sailed)
AndreiC Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 Has this become a porn site, or what? I keep staring at those panel pics and drool... Here's one picture I had saved from some earlier post around here, to keep as an inspiration for what can be done, if ever I find the money and down time to do it. 1
EKoS Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago J model here, but I have all-Garmin as well: - Dual G3X (10” and 7”) with EIS; - Dual G5 (AI and HSI) - GTN 650 Primary NavComm - GFC 500 Autopilot …etc. It was something of a challenge getting everything to play nice on the same data bus, but it’s totally spoiled me. Now to update the rest of the interior to match!
Pinecone Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago If you insist. 10" G3X, 7" G3X, GTN-750Ki, G-5, GTN-650Xi, GFC-500 with YD, GTX-345R, Remote storm scope, AoA, etc.
