1980Mooney Posted April 4 Report Posted April 4 (edited) I noticed that 100LL at the Self Serv pump on my field jumped $0.42/gallon over the weekend. They must have gotten a new shipment of Avgas and jacked the price up. Avgas seems to lag US gasoline prices both up and down as FBO's are slower to turn over inventory than your local gas station. Reg and Prem Gasoline is up about $1.00 in the last month and Diesel is up about $1.65. Nationwide 100LL.com shows $6.91 for 100LL and $7.19 for Jet-A Nationwide AirNav.com Fuel Report shows $6.46 for 100LL and $6.96 for Jet-A $6.45/gallon is exactly what I am paying for Self Serv 100LL here in "low cost Texas". At the busiest General Aviation airports on the West side of Houston, Jet-A is $8.07 @ Sugar Land, $8.20 @ Houston Executive and $7.59 @ David Wayne Hooks - surprisingly all above the national average. Hank Posted April 4 Report Posted April 4 Wow. I recently filled up in S. Florida for ~$6.50, which I thought was high. My top off for the trip in Alabama had been $5.06. But with unrest in the Middle East, it always seems like gas prices rise hourly, "because replenishing will cost more," then prices come down weekly at best after everything calms back down. Avgas prices at FBOs move in both directions much slower, because they price fuel by what they paid for the last tankful, typically 8000 gallons. The price often won't change for the duration of that load, then they buy another tanker and that sets the new price, up or down. At least this has been my experience.

DavePage Posted April 11 Report Posted April 11 I just checked - - $8.89/g for 100 LL @ KUDD. Maybe they're welcoming the Coachella crowd. Only $6.42 @ KTRM which is about 5 mi away.

Took a splash from the self serve (run by Stancraft) at COE last week and it was already over $7.15. For self serve! I should be grateful for the (mostly) cheap Canadian gas! 1

I could not find more expensive gas in the continental US, admittedly didn't spend a lot of time looking but that price point says we don't want to sell avgas. We are hardly a rich metro area so not pricing to market, I think they are pricing on monopoly power, nearest airports are 45 minutes by car. Their lease contract for hangar tenants says they must buy gas there which I think is BS and probably illegal? 1

Tanker in from elsewhere. About the only time I've actually "used" the full fuel capacity in my J was to bring in cheaper fuel from somewhere else. Otherwise, there's just no way I can take advantage of the 6+ hour range.

I have a buddy that has moved across a few different airports in the metro area here over the last eight years or so. Wherever he is based, he never buys fuel there. I'm not sure why, other than it's a few cents cheaper at some of the more rural outlying airports. So, yeah, it's usually possible to do that.
