Met with an ASI for a little over an hour this morning and left with a couple of signed 8610-2 allowing me to test for A&P.  Now for the hard part, studying to pass the knowledge tests.  I'm planning to get the written tests knocked out and then go to an accelerated A&P school like Bakers for the O&P part, there are a couple in Houston I'm looking at.  Hopefully by having the writtens already done, I can finish up the rest in a week or so, instead of the typical 12 - 14 days.  Fun, fun.

Good luck!   Testing can be a b!tch, but it's also kind of fun.    Some of the study guides are good.   We used some crowd-sourced online quizlets as well as ASA Prepware, which was really good at the time.

Thanks, I'm working my way through King Schools and have ASA already.  Also using this site, which is free - https://www.airmantest.com/  If all goes well, I hope to have it all done by the end of summer.

congratulations, accumulating the necessary experience is the hard part, thought about Baker, but did not want to take off from my business that long, prepared for the written using the question catalogue from https://www.actechbooks.com/ took me about 5 days of study to pass the written test, called Baker after written passed whether I could just do the oral and practical there and they said I had to pay for entire course, not sure any more if they required attendance for the entire course, eventually found a local examiner through the FSDO to take the oral and practical, spent about one day, paid $1,000 cash in solid bills and passed the test, don't think I will go for the IA, only work on my own plane, would have to go to a class of I think one week per year to keep it up doing less than 4 annuals per year, like to have a second set of eyes on the plane once a year, simply a guy that has done this all his life, been to a couple of weddings and funerals and that sees things I may not see, congratulations again, A&Ps are an endangered species, not enough of them to go around...

Congrats Bernie! I’m 4 courses away from completing the rest of my A&P program in San Antonio; scheduled for my Airframe O&P in May.  The FAA written tests use about 90% of their questions straight out of Prepware. Highly recommend.  In case you don’t find the Houston course convenient, I can give you the contact details for the DME in New Braunfels I used for my General and Powerplant O&P a couple months ago. The FAA 8083 handbooks and AC 43.13-1B/2B are useful prep also for the writtens and O&Ps. John

I teach at a 147. Feel free to PM me.
Thank you for the generous offer. I may take you up on that. The written tests cover a lot of ground, I'm working through General now, slowly but surely.
