Danb Posted February 28 Author Report Posted February 28 Mooney did a reasonable poor paint job on my plane especially on the bottom where there is some corrosion which is unfortunate on the next to last S model Acclaim made anyway I get an unbelievable amount of compliments on the planes looks but since it’s in for a make over do I leave it well enough alone just paint it original which includes black N numbers or make a change. Where considering changing the gold stripe and gold numbers to red I’m totally on the fence honest opinions would be helpful I need to know yesterday. Thanks DB

Danb Posted February 28 Author Report Posted February 28 The bottom is original black, gold, silver, white

exM20K Posted March 1 Report Posted March 1 Mine also shows evidence of very poor prep work. It was the second to last airplane before the factory shut down in 2010. I like the red paint scheme better, and I like it better than the ultra schemes. I know at some point I need paint, but I’m just trying to wrap my head around 2-3 months of downtime. -dan
Fritz1 Posted March 1 Report Posted March 1 very emotional decision, paint comes with downtime, cost, aggravation and risk of collateral damage, fixing the corrosion and repainting that area may be most effective, one guy at my field had a Mooney painted at Hawk in Florida and sounds quite happy
Marc_B Posted March 1 Report Posted March 1 Be sure to get recent feedback on the paint shop you choose. Previous performance isn't reflective of your results. Even on shops that have historically gotten good review here on Mooneyspace... 1

Thanks DB Both color schemes look good, but black on the top may limit your buyers someday. Living in Texas I probably wouldn't buy an airplane where the top of the cowling and the of the fuselage was black. I like black on the bottom and as an accent along the side though.
Schllc Posted March 1 Report Posted March 1 One huge benefit to a dark color on the cowling is the glare. Don’t realize the difference until you fly one back to back. If you are on the ramp all day it probably makes it a few degrees hotter, but if you roll out of a hangar and take off it doesn’t make much of a difference It’s more aesthetic than function. I have had both and didn’t notice the plane any hotter either way to be honest. I live in south Florida. I painted my new one black on top.

Schllc Posted Monday at 03:54 AM Report Posted Monday at 03:54 AM Thank you. Wasn’t anything intentional. your plane is dark gray on top, I’m sure it’s welcome this time of year if it makes an appreciable difference? Or in the summer?
Danb Posted Monday at 11:22 AM Author Report Posted Monday at 11:22 AM Mine has been black on top since new I don’t plan on changing that clean shiny black pops I keep it clean and get quite a few compliments even from controllers I didn’t get many on my other five Mooneys. All were quite nice. I just want o know if adding some red will amplify the paint scheme or screw it up. I don’t want a circus plane but one that stands out as one the causes people to take a second look .

And with all of the compliments you've had from people that have seen it in person, it sounds like others think so as well. 2
