willerjim273 Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 Hello all, I just returned getting my 02 topped off. Unfortunately, the line guy broke the hinge. Anyone ever been through this? This the small exterior door on the starboard side near the luggage door. Tks
Fritz1 Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 Fragile, happened to me, chances are you can bend it back into shape, send pic
Marc_B Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 If you mean the spring broke for the door, this is very common and to replace the spring you basically have to unrivet and remove the piano hinge to replace the spring. 916008-009 Spring. Lasar carries them for $35. Alternatively you can use a piece of hook and loop on the opposite edge of the door and the mating surface of the fuselage (just a thin piece that keeps it tucked and invisible, and it will keep the door from rattling around. If you mean the entire door, then you'll have to remove and fabricate...or I'd reach out to BAS in Greeley, CO as I'm sure they can find you a replacement surplus part to install and repaint.

Ragsf15e Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 I think some people were using magnets to fix the door or maybe the aux power door?
anthonydesmet Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 Velcro also works. Had same thing happen with my external power port door during avionics upgrade.
Yetti Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 BAS is taking apart an Ovation. Should probably have what you need.
willerjim273 Posted January 13 Author Report Posted January 13 Thanks everyone, There is a part # for what he broke. 950006 001E avail on Ebay. Photos attached. What broke is one of the "leafs" that wraps around the pin. Of course it is the on attached to the aircraft skin. You can see it in the pics attached. No way to solder that. I like your ideas for alternatives. Since it was broken by the line guy, the FBO is going to take care of it. So the right way is to: remove the hinge and blind rivets, install new hinge and pray the paint can be matched. Amazing how such a "little" thing can turn into this. For those with J models, if you have it, it is the same door as for your GPU. So there ya go. In another matter, my really old KAP 200 was wandering, for years, on short final on coupled approaches starting to "hunt" about 2 miles from final. Annoying. I talked to Jay at Mid Continent a week ago, awesome company, and he pinpointed the gyro in the back, the KG 102. I replaced it and viola! Problem solved. My first call to Jay was because I need a place to start and because I found the KG 102, gyro, was sitting in there with completely shot mounts. These are called "Barry Mounts". 4 of them. I had some of theses lying around as well. I put in the new mounts and different KG 102 and now she goes right down to mins like on a rail. BUT, what I am getting to is that Jay said the if I needed those mounts, l-22 BA's, they are disappearing. So If any of you still have the old King, go check that big black thing near your battery, If the mounts are loose goosey, now you know. Probably get some on E-Bay? Take care and good flying!
