Good evening, Mooniacs,

I’m in the process of replacing my old Whelen A500 tail light on my 1984 M20J with an Orion O500. From the service manual I understand that the +14V power line for the strobe ends at the high voltage converter that is not needed for the LED unit. Does this mean, I have to route a new cable all the way to the tail? Has anyone here attempted this before?

Any help is appreciated.

Blue skies!

Can’t you repurpose the high voltage wire from the strobe power supply to the tube? If there wasn’t an existing strobe in the tail, you will need to run a new wire.

Oh - now I get you - of course! I'll try that, thanks.

I had wingtip mounted aft nav lights that went away when i installed the aveo wingtips.  So I had to install a combined aft nav strobe led light on the rudder.  i used the existing strobe power wire for the new strobe.  I repurposed the old standby vacuum power wire for the aft nav light.

And be aware, when you start installing LED's, you will mess with the gear down dimming circuit.
