dkkim73 Posted October 16 Report Posted October 16 Hi All, On my aux setup page, I cannot alter the display format for lat and long. I think this might be one of the "minor variations" of G1000 behavior that is plane-specific (e.g. like into which COM and NAV slots the MFD info pages will load frequencies). Curious if anyone can confirm and, if you go into "configuration mode" with the G1000 on startup, is this alterable? I am not near the plane now but I think it's stuck on "decimal minutes" format. Current solution is to try and set all other devices I am using to match. Thanks! DK
Rick Junkin Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 Your best bet, if you’re planning to do this yourself, may be to enter config mode and look for a coordinate format setting option. But I’m guessing you’re trying to avoid entering that mode unless you know it will get you the result you want, which is a prudent move. There is sure to be a Garmin guru along shortly who can offer more info. Have you talked to an avionics shop with a Garmin dealership? Configuration changes are typically frowned upon by Garmin unless one of their dealers make the change. @Garmin Aviation Team
EricJ Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 In the C182s that I fly we change that in the G1000 all the time. The PC simulator will do it, too. I don't know why it'd be locked out in the Mooney.

Deb Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 According to the G1000 Pilot’s Guide for the Mooney M20M/M20R/M20TN, that function is “N/A”: On the PC simulator, the cursor skips the “Position” field in the Display Units box. We don’t know if this is alterable in configuration mode. @PaulM or @Pmaxwell might know. Garmin provides this helpful warning: Warning: Only qualified maintenance personnel should perform this procedure. Improper configuration can lead to system errors. 1

I saw the same thing in the PC simulator, and also when I was at Garmin training in Olathe. I'd be curious if it is changeable at a deeper level. Though I don't think decimal minutes is bad for a traditional format, if you ever were working with ground coordination UTM or MGRS would be so much more intuitive.

I know a Garmin guru in Billings I might ask the next chance I get. I think there's some inside baseball about configuration stuff.

I can't see why the range of choices need be different in a Mooney vs. a C182T. I would imagine for the CAP volunteer work you do, being able to use different coordinates would simplify things. I suppose it's possible that certification, since tied to airframe cert, might be more time- or cost-intensive if more variations were tested, but that's really a WAG.
Schllc Posted October 22 Report Posted October 22 Garmin allowed each manufacturer to select appearance and interface in the g1000. it is completely different in the cirrus, and a lot of little nuances in the 182 and the bonanza I flew. I cannot explain why it would be blocked out, that would seem like more of an oversight than compulsory. It is not something most people would utilize, and may simply have been overlooked. Mooney however owns the control over these settings nd there is little Garmin can do to help, we learned this while getting the flight stream to work.
