I just flew 25 hours over 2 weeks. My EDM 830 started to alarm "DIF" at low RPM (i.e. not in cruise) with #6 cylinder EGT being the hottest. I am thinking either a manifold inlet leak or an injector issue. Anyone else had a similar experience? The aircraft had it's 50 hourly last week and compressions were fine.

That’s weird for sure. Mines always the lowest by a relatively substantial amount. The diff between highest and lowest on mine can be 47f, with #6 the lowest at 316.

What is the maximum EGT temperature that we don’t never exceed ?
We know the CHT don’t above 400 and not below 300 with the IO360 A6 B6
Thanks

This thread is about a turbo-charged TSIO360 Continental. You're asking about a normally aspirated Lycoming IO360 A6 B6.

Turbocharged engines monitor TIT (Turbine Inlet Temperature) over EGT.

@Australian M20K Owner if you have one EGT suddenly go hot without explanation it could be a clogged injector, causing uneven mixture (lean) in that cylinder.

IIUC then you look at CHT, if it's over 380 (Continental) you could be too close to peak (at higher power settings).

From what I've been told, EGT is

- relative (varies by position due to placement, manifold dynamics, etc)

- not meaningful by itself (though you image the probes don't last as long hot)

- meaningful by observing:

1. change as you lean across peak; ie. where peak EGT occurs matters

2. changes relative to historical (which is what I interpret your question as relevant to...)

It’s unlikely to be a clogged injector causing an elevated EGT at idle power but could be a cold/bad plug or an induction leak.
If a bad plug it will stay high at higher power plus it should be obvious with runup mag check done in normalize mode, but if an induction leak it will join the pack when MAP = ambient atmospheric pressure.

Download your data and upload it to Savvy where you can better tell what’s going on.
It’s free to upload your data there and use its tools.

my 6 is the coldest, what are the actual temp etc?
