M016576
Does anyone know off hand if the wiring is different between a 430w and 530w? Obviously they require different mounting trays, but are the pin outs/ harnesses the same? I'm thinking about options for switching over to the ifd540 at a "cheaper" cost (ie, hoping to not have to pay massive wiring costs). N601RX
You can find both the install manuals here which will have the pinout for each. http://csobeech.com/files/
OR75
I am hoping Avidyne will develop a slide in replacement to the 430. the number of 430 is much larger than the number of530
KSMooniac
I'm shocked they didn't do a 430W replacement first, and even more shocked that the new Garmins are not tray-compatible with the 530W/430W. Those decisions are unquestionably dumb IMO.
OR75
totally agree. I just don't see a technology "quantum leap" between the GNS430/530 and the GTN series that requires new connectors / rewiring.
M016576
Thanks to N601RX, I got the install manuals for both the 430W and 530W. I know this is shocking (sarcasm), but the pin outs are identical between the two, so to upgrade from a 430W to a IFD540, you shouldn't need to re-wire anything, just get a new tray. One hitch I found, though (potentially)- while the Pin-out is identical, and the connector housings all look identical, garmin uses different part numbers between the two (40001 for 430w series, 50001 for 530w series). Again, the pin -outs are identical, but the connector housings have different part numbers (they look identical, too, though. Thanks for that, garmin. M016576
Quote: N601RX Here is where I purchased all my connectors from for a recent upgrade. They show the same connector kit for the 430 and 530. He also sells new trays and backplates. http://www.lane-pilot.com/servlet/Detail?no=
Awful_Charlie
The pin outs are *nearly* identical ;-) I moved a 430 from #1 to #2 in a previous aircraft, the one connection that needed changing was the DME remote tuning output Ben
bbillb
The rumor is that Avidyne will announce a 430w slide in replacement at Oshkosh this year. This is "unofficial" of course!!!
