Hangar availability in California

Hello all, 

I might get sent to Palo Alto or Irvine temporarily but long enough to want to bring my plane along. What's the hangar situation like around there? I'm willing to commute up to 1 hr each morning if that means living close to a hangar. Thanks for your help.

I can't speak to Palo Alto.

Irvine is very close to John Wayne/Orange County (KSNA) but is likely to be EXTREMELY expensive and hangars have waiting lists.  Not sure of the hangar situation at Fullerton (KFUL), but probably an okay commute choice.  My home drome, Brackett Field (KPOC), has low cost hangars available but your commute will be miserable if you work regular hours (say, need to be in Irvine between 7-9 am) you're looking at 1:00-1:30.  Off hours it can be done in 45 minutes, however.  Chino (KCNO) and Corona (KAJO) are possibilities but Chino had a two-year wait for hangars last I knew.  And, those commutes are not great.  But, toll-roads are available into the Irvine area that might make commuting from them tolerable (likely right around 1 hour at peak commute times).  Of course, if you don't have to live right next to the airport you could pick a residence closer to Irvine and offset the commute a bit. Both KPAO and KSQL have multi-year wait lists. You may get lucky at KRHV, a wonderful San Jose airport under a semi-permanent threat of a not-so-sudden closure. The commute from Palo Alto is not too bad.

there are none in the Bay Area. you maybe lucky with Marina between Watsonville and Monterey

If you do end up at KRHV, you may be one of the lucky pilots who have the "opportunity" to test fly the new wonder of modern chemistry - G100UL in your Mooney. Hope that your tanks are in good shape. Cursory earch of the forum will give you some ideas.
