Heading home after a long weekend, the Number 1 alternator would not picked up the load.

My local mechanic checked and found a broken field wire.  GREAT, simple and easy to fix.  Except that wire is in a position, he had to work like a dentist with a small mirror. :D

With the wire fixed, still not working.  Swapped the VRs and still #1 is not working.  Also checked with both VRs, the field wire had voltage on it.

So, does anyone have any bright ideas?  

Plan now is to pull the alternator for repair/replace at annual in May.  Just no hard IFR until then.  Who to send it to for checking out and possibly repairing?

There are two SB's that apply to a 252 - one is to add a local ground to each ACU, the other is to relocate the V sense wires, by taking them off the Field CB.  This makes sense because if the field trips then the warning light no longer work, just when you want them to work.  But the implementation is goofy - they provided a splice to take the one V-sense to the annunciator panel and the other to the Hi/Lo vacuum switch.  This sort of makes sense from an accessibility point of view, but then they ask for the CB's to be changed from 1A to 2 A.  One you have access to those, its real easy to relocate these V-sense wires.  Newer Mooneys have a separate 1A V-sense CB.
