Steve65E-NC Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Over on vintage mooney I promised photos of this case that fits under the pilots knees. However, I have later model seats so more general application . Now is a good time to pick up corruagated political signs. Avoid just cutting outside panels. Think of long fold-up U shapes for strength and think about grain. Tape is metal HVAC, use lots. No sticky mess like with typical hardware store duct tape. My outside dimensions are 12 1/8" long, 6 1/16" wide. Height is 10" on chart end and 8 1/4 on APlate end. I show recess on left rear for seat tilt knob. This recess is un-necessary for earlier, non-tilt control, seats (where it will work for pilot or co-pilot), yields more IAP room and a much simpler pattern. If you don't like the random printing you can buy new stock any color after pattern development. I don't think this stuff paints very well. As I mentioned this case inhibits easy fuel knob access unless seat is temporarily slid back. A pvc pipe "reacher" should probably be included. Of course the case can easily be moved up to open co-pilot or rear seat. Best if signs come from your own political campaign so that you have something to show for money spent. Quote
Seth Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Nice design. You must have long legs. I land and takeoff with the seat full foward. I knotch it back by one during cruise flight. Part of my decent checklist is to slide my seat into landing configuration. I also double check that during the downwind gumps check. Otherwis I'm not going to have good braking authority. I'm also 5'6", so probably one of the shorter Mooney Pilots. -Seth Quote
jetdriven Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 I must be crazy because I dont have any paper charts. I would also make that from the opposing party's political signs, perhaps less people will vote for them. Quote

mulro767 Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Everyone asks me what I plan to do when/if my iPad overheats or fails in flight (which has never happened btw). My simple answer? Use my iPhone. Looks like a lot of wasted space and dead trees to me. Quote
jetdriven Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 and if the iPhone goes dead, plug it into the USB port/cig plug. And if the Bad Elf goes bad, fire up the GNS5870. By then the iPad is cooled off, but if not, there's the aera 500 in the panel dock with approaches, and if that 5-hour independent battery goes bad, the KLN-89B GPS, and if THAT conks out there is always the old "Hey approach, I just hit a bump and spilled coffee allover this approach plate. Wiped the localizer frequency and DA right out. Do you have those handy?" Quote
