Medicpilot Posted Saturday at 02:52 AM Report Posted Saturday at 02:52 AM New aircraft to me. Removing a Loran system, factory engine gauges, installing LED Nulites behind instruments, and installing a JPI930 engine monitor. I am Owner assisting install. I have a few questions. Some of my gauges are “cloudy”. How hard is it to get the glass replaced with new non reflective glass. How hard is replacing a GI106A with a Garmin GI275 CDI? I have a little money left and trying to get the most bang for my $$ while it is apart. Also, any good replacements for the dash pad lights under the brim? Quote
PT20J Posted Saturday at 03:45 PM Report Posted Saturday at 03:45 PM Legally, aircraft instruments can only be repaired by a FAA certified instrument repair station. Quote
Rwsavory Posted Saturday at 05:03 PM Report Posted Saturday at 05:03 PM You can have the cloudy instruments restored at an instrument shop. It has been known for hangar fairies to appear, remove, clean and replace the glass. I would just leave them and spend your money and effort elsewhere. Working on old airplanes is like peeling an onion. Every time you touch something it leads to something breaking and yet another project. 1 Quote
pirate Posted Sunday at 06:05 PM Report Posted Sunday at 06:05 PM A dimmable automotive led strip light that plugs into a 12 volt cigar socket works nicely under the glair shield / dash pad. Blue works good, lights up my entire panel when needed. Amazon has many options. Quote
