Garmin Database Manager + Jeppesen Slow?

Anyone have issues updating Jeppesen on an SD card through GADM? Mine sits at 100% Downloaded and never goes past it. I've tried formatting the SD card and everything, no luck.

I'm too cheap to use Garmin Pilot and pay the subscription to update through the app.

I don't know what your specific problem is other then Garmin Database Manager is garbage.  In our case, I have to clear the cache every time or it fails in the airplane (even though GDM says it completes fine).  So... why doesn't Garmin just have the software clear the cache every time?..  Seriously.  Send it to India and give a local 5 bucks and he could fix it I guarantee...

BTW, try clearing the cache....

I don't know the answer but I'm just curious why you don't just use JDM as that seems to always just work?  I typically use Garmin Pilot to upload but when I need to write an SD card, I use JDM either on my laptop or on my iPhone with the Bad Elf Wombat.

Is bad elf a thing that most people use? I’ve never heard of it. 
 

Honestly I just got Jeppesen and this was my first try outside of foreflight. I didn’t even know about JDM so I’ll try that tomorrow.

I've never had a problem with Garmin Aviation DB Mgr, but I'm on a PC.  I've heard of people having issues on both the PC and MAC, and the fix seems to be to just download an reinstall GADM again.  You don't need to uninstall, just download the latest (even if it's the same version) and reinstall.

Unfortunately they stopped making it when their manufacturer went out of business during Covid.  It was a great little device.

i noticed that. what a bummer. JDM worked well for me though. Thanks for the tip, can't believe I didn't know about it.

Glad you got thagt worked out, JDM has worked consistently while GADM hasn't so I just stick with that.  The only issue is (though I haven't checked for awhile) JDM doesn't allow you to write a sync card that enables all devices to load from one card.  It really isn't a big deal but it would be nice.

I just wrote about my GADM woes in another thread. Garmin released a new version yesterday, 24.7.8 to address issues that I had when I updated the app two days ago, if you haven't already done it, download and reinstall. But do it at your own peril.
