Tjtolton Posted June 9, 2012 Author Report Posted June 9, 2012 Trying to find the expected resistance versus temperature of my #3 CHT sensor. It is a Rochester 3080-38. Still trying to understand my elevated #3 CHT readings by comparing JPI sensor to installed Rochester 3080-38. Must first get Rochester sensor to indicate correctly on the panel meter.
Cruiser Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 did you try ice and boiling water for 32°F and 212°F ?
rorythedog Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 My # 3 cht always shows an elevated temp relative to the others in my m20j. I think it has something to do with the location of the probe in thgat cylinder.....so I've been told.

Tjtolton Posted June 9, 2012 Author Report Posted June 9, 2012 Thanks for the comments. Did try making measurements at ice, room temperature, and boiling water. Go an idea of what to expect, but nothing precise enough to trust it. 32F 25.5K, 84F 7K, 212F 1.1K. Looking for published values. As far as using the professionals haven't found a shop yet that can check the calibration of the cluster guage. Any idea where I can get someone to calibrate my temperature sensor when it is coupled to my panel meter? I am located in Michigan. From the JPI is does appear the CHT #3 is hotter, just want to confirm what I suspect is true. Right now the factory CHT signal stays fixed aroung 250F with only a small amount of upscale deflection during flight. Factory CHT and JPI differ by 100F and yet are colocated at about the same point.
jetdriven Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 boil a pot of synthetic oil on a camping stove, put you probe in that. measure the temp of the oil with a laser thermometer. It will be very close.

Tjtolton Posted June 9, 2012 Author Report Posted June 9, 2012 I wish that were the case, but my JPI sensor is seated by the Mooney (Rochester 3080-38) probe and it doesn't come back into range after operating for a while.
