You’re missing the placard for alternate static.

I went with gray myself, I think it looks great.

What placard? Do you have a picture?

All placards are listed in the POH, probably the limitations section…

All M20Js will be the same for that detail…

This panel is still amazing… a day later!!! :)

Best regards,

Make sure you get wiring diagrams to go with your install. They could come in handy in the future if someone needs to get in there

This is the panel I started with before the upgrade. The JPI 900 is just to the left of the G500 PFD

Most people would think a G500 is an upgrade.

Agreed, and only 1 nav/com for IFR? Not my idea of fun in busy airspace. At least there is the Monitor function. And at least they just recently fixed the cross-fill issue between the GNC-375 and GTN's - but still no database between sync between them.

I'm guessing possibly a remote comm 2?

Nice work!

Ah, thanks, I didn't know G3X could support a remote Com, but I see Garmin offers a GTR-20 remote Com for the G3x but says for LSA and Experimental - but maybe that's okay.

This all began as an autopilot upgrade from the KFC 200 to the GFC 500. Some compromises had to be made. We could not get a Garmin remote transponder which is the reason we went with the GNX 375. We do have a remote com...so we have dual WAAS GPS and coms and one NAV with the GTN 650.

We had to get rid of the JPI 900 in order to have enough real estate on the panel. I will say that I am very happy with the Garmin EIS after todays flight. The information is displayed much larger which makes it easier on these 62 year old eyes.

A couple of nice redundancies in this set-up. If the ADAHRS fails the G5 will display AHRS data onto the G3X PFD. There are battery back-ups for the G3X's and the G5. There should be at the very minimum 1 hour of battery life in the G3X and a couple of hours in the G5 in the event of an alternator or electrical system issue.

I flew with the new setup today for the first time. The GFC 500 was amazing. I still need to determine how I want to configure all the information the G3X's provide. I could not be happier at this point.

That panel looks awesome and very capable!  One question- g3x doesn’t normally have a backup battery, only the g5 does.  Is there some kind of aftermarket backup that you have?

And does the battery power the separate AHRS, GAD29, GAD27 boxes the G3X requires? Does the G3X automatically switch over to using internal GPS?

Thanks for explaining some of the thought process behind the panel selection. Curious why you went with two G3x screens rather than say upgrade the G500 to the TXI version?
For example, do you fly routinely with two pilots?
Also would like to learn more about the battery backup on the G3x’s, like Tom asked plus is there anything that allows you to monitor the charge status of the backup battery like you can on the G5 for example?

We installed a IBBS for battery backup. The STC for certificated aircraft was approved by the FAA a year or two ago. I am uncertain as to everything it will power in the event of an alternator failure.

I still have a lot to learn about the new system and all of its functionality.

I chose the G3X over the G500 TXi for a greater degree of customization. The G3X allows a great deal of flexibility in screen configuration(s) and its integration with the GFC500 is great as the systems were intended to be used together. I was going to go with a 7” screen on the right side but chose to go big or go home.

Partial panel IFR will be a piece of cake with this setup.
