C.J. Posted April 7, 2023 Report Posted April 7, 2023 Hello to all, Does anyone know where I can find two serviceable, used Cleveland wheel caps p/n 158-01000? I have already messaged @Alan Fox and Wentworth. For new ones I've already contacted airpowerinc.com, univair.com & spruce. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. C.J. Quote
hammdo Posted April 7, 2023 Report Posted April 7, 2023 I bought mine on eBay ($75 each) but I bet those are long gone, he had old new stock back in November. May try there… -Don Quote

Nobody even had new parts in stock and at best it would've been a three to eight week wait, with prices ranging from $400 to $500. 1 Quote

Buckeyechuck Posted September 18, 2023 Report Posted September 18, 2023 Just finishing the annual. Have the same problem. Need two. Nothing on eBay new ones $5-600. Anyone know if these are cast aluminum or magnesium? At the cost of new, I’m guessing magnesium. Quote
MB65E Posted September 19, 2023 Report Posted September 19, 2023 I highly doubt they were Mag but could be as a lot of the older Cleveland wheels were mag. Some one should print them! I’d donate a used one for the effort. -Matt Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted September 19, 2023 Report Posted September 19, 2023 I’m pretty sure all our wheels are magnesium. Quote

If you do it at the Imperial Sand Dunes, you have to throw it into someone else’s campfire. They will hunt you down and fine you for an environmental violation. Just stick to Sobe bombs, they don’t last as long. Quote
Pinecone Posted September 19, 2023 Report Posted September 19, 2023 Hmm, the "hub caps" on my K are just Al sheet. I have considered the Hubba Hubba ones. Has anyone used then without issues? Quote
MB65E Posted September 19, 2023 Report Posted September 19, 2023 Those are fine, but we are speaking of the inner cap that the vintage airplanes had with 3 screws that covers the wheel nut itself. Univair has them for $497. I would sign off a 3D printed one. -Matt Quote

Cleveland Maintenance Manual says all 40-86 and 40-87 wheels are magnesium except 40-87C and 40-87H which are aluminum. 2 Quote
cliffy Posted September 20, 2023 Report Posted September 20, 2023 (edited) The wheel "could" be mag or aluminum depending on P/N Anyone familiar with either can tell just by lifting them Same with the small hub caps. I'd have a TIG welder do it. Save $$$$$$ by welding if new is $500 ea. At $85 it might be a toss up. You're just filling in lost metal on a cast part. Clean the weld with a dremel and files This is not a structural part. Its only a dust cover. If vinegar doesn't foam on clean metal then its probably aluminum Rub the inside with steel wool, clean well and try vinegar No foam No aluminum I don't think they'd go to the trouble of mag casting a dust cover. Not enough to gain there, Edited September 20, 2023 by cliffy Quote

Buckeyechuck Posted September 21, 2023 Report Posted September 21, 2023 Was able to complete a weld repair on my caps. No a job for an average welder. Wentworth just responded. They have stock @ $45 per cap. Beats new at $500 and up any day. Quote
MikeOH Posted September 22, 2023 Report Posted September 22, 2023 I can't help but ask, what problem does a score from the cotter pin on the inside of a dust cap actually cause? Quote
