the way to get the guy behind you to slow down is to use the callsign "Citabria 8CS"

That's fricking hilarious! :D

In fairness, it may be that there are enough Mooney drivers out there who bomb onto final at speed, so people may be expecting that.  The first M20J I looked at the guy said his normal landing is over the numbers at 100 KIAS :blink:

I probably wouldn't be making friends if I called 'on final at Cessna speed' :)

Last year at F70 (another busy uncontrolled SOCAL training airport), I was getting jammed from behind on downwind by another aircraft.  I announced that I was extending my downwind for spacing.  Someone spoke up and said, great we won't be able to see you turning base.  Yeah, I've felt rushed for years in SOCAL and many of my flying friends feel the same way.  Some avoid F70 now.  Appreciate everyone's feedback.  I'm slowing down unless the tower asks me to keep my speed up on those long straight ins.

if I were passive-aggressive, I'd just chirp out a cheerful "See and Avoid!" :)

A few years ago, while turning in the City airfield circuit of LILLE (LFQQ), in the north of France, a small regional airport, an epic arrival which is about the following :

A guy announces on the radio :

"Lille tour hello, from "xxxx", CAM VFR currently north of Paris (200 Kms), for a long finale and a complete ?" ;

At the tower the lady answers :

"xxxx" hello, from Lille tour, you are still far away, I will ask you for 5 minutes of waiting there is an announced commercial arrival and people in the circuit" ;

-"Lille tour, at your place in 8 minutes, I don't have 5 minutes of fuel to lose !"...

-"Euuuh... xxxx from Lille tour, I'll call you back !"...

Less than a minute later...

-"xxxx, from Lille tour, track 08 in service, integrate for final and recall visual installations, xpdr 61xx"...

-"Lille tour, xpdr will be 2000, final 08 in 6 minutes"...

So except if you have a retrovisor on the canopy, do not take care of those who are behind you.

Oh yeah, clearly you couldn’t cross to the cold side to do that.  However, if nobody is in front of you, you should land on the cold side.  If you landed on the cold side, you could exit wherever was appropriate.  Most of the T-37 runways were longer than the T-6 really needed.

I was thinking plane ahead T&G cold side, you full stop on hot side.  Plane behind on cold side.

Most of them were longer than the T-37 needed also. :D
