WAFI Posted September 28, 2022 Report Posted September 28, 2022 Can anyone tell me if its feasible to clean the foggy glass on there gauges? Is it serviceable? Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted September 28, 2022 Report Posted September 28, 2022 Totally doable and easy. As long as the gasket is reusable. Legally speaking, it must be done by an instrument shop. A lot of shops are reluctant to do anything short of a full overhaul these days. I would call around and see if any will just clean the glass. 1 Quote

Some like the ASI, VSI and altimeter, can affect the readings. The VSI is the worst. It will read backwards if there is the slightest leak. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted September 28, 2022 Report Posted September 28, 2022 If your hangar farries decide to do this, wear gloves when cleaning the glass and doing the initial re-assembly. If they leave a fingerprint on the inside of the glass, you will hate them for ever. Quote

This gauge has the internal space vented through a vent port on the back of the gauge. The port is left open, so the gasket is just holding the glass in place. There is a paper gasket between the glass and the face and a rubber gasket between the glass and the case. There are 8 little screws holding the face on. Make sure you have the proper screwdriver. Don't try to clean the face, even water may smear the paint. Quote

carusoam Posted September 29, 2022 Report Posted September 29, 2022 Clean one gauge… you will suddenly notice the others have a similar haze… Some gauges are still really nice, once they can be seen clearly… Find an instrument shop to see what the options are for refreshing….
