Cooling fan failed on GTN750

Recommended Posts

Hello

Just installed full new panel G3X, GTN750, GTN650, GFC500, GTX345, and DME, ADF,

After few test flights today got following message : Cooling Fan of GTN750 failed,

External Temperature on the ground was quite high close to 100F,

The company that installed my instruments replaced the failed fan,

My question is : are there recommendations for installing an additional cooling?

My model is M20J MSE of 1993

Panel picture attached

Note for Philip…

Cooling fans on GTNs have a quirky history… a few have failed around here…

They are easy to replace…

More of a fan quality issue than a temperature or install issue…

PP thoughts only, stuff I have read around here…

Best regards,

Thirty years ago I was an engineering manager at a company that made telecom equipment. A large telephone company central office would have row after row of 11.5' high racks of equipment. Bell specs forbade cooling fans because fans had the lowest MTBF of any installed equipment. You had to design assuming your equipment might be at the top of the stack with everything below heating your box up.
