Motor mounts (again)

Recommended Posts

Sorry, but looking at old threads I can’t determine if with new Lord mounts if you eliminate whatever shims may have been there. With the engine off the firewall there isn’t a way to adjust with reference to the cowling. I’m probably missing something in the manual(s), but I don’t see them called out although I think I recall a mention of the factory possibly installing shims.

Most of the manuals say to reinstall the shims in the same positions you found them.  That is fine if your engine hasn’t been out since it was installed at the factory.

In most cases the shims are needed to adjust engine position, this is true whether you use Lord or Barry mounts.  It is a trial and error method to get it right.

Not sure what that says re the C model. Is the spacer mentioned for the E,F a shim?

Also noteworthy is that both halves of the Lord J 7402-1 mount are the same, per their tech support.

The J2218 washer is listed as “as required” for all models.  These are 1/8” thick washers for shimming, Mooney also makes their own washers 1/16” thick for fine adjustment of engine position.
