Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and am here actually to support my daughter. I'm an old retired Army "Huey" guy and have zero time in a Mooney.  My daughter purchased a Mooney M20J located in West Palm Beach, Florida - and she needs it flown to Prescott, Az.  She has no experience with Mooney's and neither does her VERY young CFI.

She's looking for a pilot from AZ that is willing to go to Florida with her and fly it home.  She's willing to pay the costs involved.  It would be even better (but not required) if the pilot is a CFI.

In the alternative, She is looking for a Florida Mooney pilot that can fly it to Az and then return home via commercial flight.  Her goal is to simply get the plane home to Arizona. Because she and I are both new to airplane ownership, we have no experience in having a plane ferried.  I was told that this forum would be an excellent place to start.

I used a spread sheet posted here in the forum, to contact a few people and hopefully someone will contact me. My Daughter is very determined to get this aircraft home safely and does not want to risk a pilot without Mooney experience, flying it.  Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello ibantu,

I am a M20F owner and have ferried various Mooney M20B-M20J models all across the country, a few trips being for members of this forum.  I’m located in the Atlanta area but willing to travel. Happy to provide a quote and help out if needed.

Hello,

I am in Phoenix, a CFI, Ferry Pilot, and Mooney owner / pilot.  I would be happy to discuss the possibility of assisting your daughter getting the Mooney from FL to PRC.

Give me a call. 970-227-3417

I have a good amount of mooney time as well. Not a CFI but commercial and about 750 hours mooney time.

My Daughter found a CFI at her school that says he's willing to both ferry the plane with her and instruct her.  The CFI is also a Mooney M20e owner with hundreds of hours in the type. She literally just met the guy today thru happenstance.  I want to thank everyone that responded.

Of course, I will keep all of the information learned today - just in case the situation changes, or it's needed in the future.

Thank you all!!!

That sounds like an ideal situation, great news!  Now get your daughter on mooneyspace to update us on her trip and new J!!!

Ibantu…

It may be a really good idea… to get Transition Training during the long Cross Country…

Kind of combining both the needs of getting familiarized with the new 2U/her plane, and getting it relocated across the country…

It makes a ton of sense to hire a Mooney specific CFI and learn a few things along the way…

I did something similar when I bought my Mooney in TX and flew it home to NJ…

Jimmy and David helped me arrange a Mooney Specific CFII to help me transition and fly IFR back to NJ…

We saw all kinds of weather, flew places I had never been before, and flew in IMC…

By the time I was home, I was comfortable flying an M20R Ovation in IMC…

When discussing transition training and Florida… I always invite  @mike_elliott to the conversation…

Best regards,

You're exactly right and that's exactly what she's doing.  She found a CFI at her flight school (of all places) by total accident.  He owns a Mooney and teaches Mooney student owners.  He's agreed to take her as a student and ferry the plane home.
