I have a freshly overhauled engine in my J and the overhaul shop put massive plugs but the installation shop removed my Tempest fine wires before sending the old engine out. They probably have 300 to 400 hours on them. Is there any issue putting the fine wires back into this new engine if they’re still in good shape?

Absolutely do not use them, who puts old parts in a new engine?

Sell them to me for cheap because they are after all used 

Seriously if care is taken with cleaning them they should outlast the engine. Your shop did you a favor because they saved your plugs.

Clean them, ensure they aren’t damaged, and then reinstall with fresh gaskets.  I had over 1000 hours on mine and they’re still going strong.

Agreed! I put my old ones back in.

Last year I had a couple with high resistance and replaced them. I went by their booth at OSH later and their rep said I should've called them... They likely would've replaced them for free! Oh well.

Great plugs, great company. I use their filters and vacuum pumps too.

You might as well put a hundred hours on the massive plugs and then trash them and put the fine wires back on. After all you bought them! And they’re not worth selling. So you might as well use them up before going back. That’s what I did.

You can clean (properly) and reuse them, but I'm puzzled why anybody would do that on a new engine.

I'd +1 on running the massives until they're not wonderful anymore and then put either BY or the cleaned up fines or something else suitable in.

Can't see running a new motor on old plugs.

We're about to get (knock on wood) our reman from the factory.  I was thinking about the same thing...run the massive plugs for a few hundred hours and then put fine wires in.

Ironically we had the existing massive plug on #3 lower go bad last week.  I replaced with a new plug just so we can fly her to the shop for the new engine.

If your going to let the fine wires sit for an extended period, I’d suggest a fine spray of oil on the threads and putting them in a ziploc bag with some desiccant.

That’s what about 1.2K in plugs?

At 300 or 400 hundred hours on they aren’t “old”

Put the fine wires in after cleaning and testing, then sell the new massive electrodes to a CB here.
