Today's flight for 2022

Recommended Posts

IMG_3153.JPEGFly-in today at Fayette, AL (M95).  The P-51 I'm parked next to has 12 kills in WWII.  She did two awesome high-speed low passes.  The second one I witnessed out my windshield as I was waiting to back-taxi.  Hair raising to see an airplane go that fast that close!!!

Excellent footage of rare helos, but would have been a great time to hold the phone horizontally.

This made me go “huh - wonder how rare.” The Army Reserve flies Chinooks at my home drone, so they’re super common in the local traffic area. They generate an insane amount of rotor wash, so you do have to be careful when operating behind them - but they’re otherwise very cool to have around :)

@amillet, Sausage, and me met up for formation practice.  First time in a year, for me.   Met up at 0S9 (Port Townsend) and maneuvered up and down the Strait between 0S9 and KCLM.  Using the sunny days while we can.  This bonus summer weather will not stay around much longer.

Flew to Greenville, SC this weekend.  CAVU both ways!  My wife started chemo earlier in the year, and this was my first flight with her in months.  Great time at Fall for Greenville.

Canadian exchange officer to 1st Armd Div Sig Regt (1 ADSR), Verden an der Aller- ‘83 to ‘85.

First heard the term when one of my young Sgts gave his report following a last lite perimeter patrol on the Deister where we had established our Comcen.  He was a Scouse and was referring to a person they had engaged halfway through the patrol and was using unflattering language to describe the hapless TA soldier who had been sent to test us.  Apparently, “bimbling” is not a desirable skill in soldiers.

When I asked him what “bimbling” meant, that is how he defined it for me.  Still chuckle when I remember that exchange in our little CP close to a midnight in September ‘84.

Do you need a special certification to do this? We do over here... It looks so fun!

No special certificate or training required!  Obviously it’s also a really good idea to get some quality training though!
