I flew 80 hrs a bit beloW my average 100h per year.

below few pictures of Marseille (2nd biggest city in France after Paris) where i leave in south of France.

Controllers of Marseille airport are very cool and let us fly in security along the coast line below 1000ft,

Then at 1650ft along protected area of calanques to Cassis and La ciotta

This was my least flying year since I got my private back in 81. The business trips dried up. No reason to go on vacation because of the COVID and the wife is working on her MBA so she can’t go anywhere. The Mooney was down for 4 months for the engine rebuild. Just 52 hours.

Jeez, I see why we all get corrosion in the engine… all our planes have been down 6 months at a time for avionics and other maintenance!

171.3 hrs for me. Plus got my instrument rating. Even got my dad up for his first Mooney flight…I think the last time he was up in a private plane was late 70’s - early 80’s!  I think he’s chomping at the bit to head back up for a trip!  Plenty of fun flights this year and hopefully more adventure trips this coming year! Merry Christmas to all!

Like some, I flew nowhere near as much as I intended. My wife and I bought our Mooney in January of this year, spent 4 months making it exactly how I wanted it and then had a fuel system related engine out in June (Check valve in flow divider failed). Then in August, I changed jobs which had me relocated from Atlanta to the Boston area, I wasn't able to get the airplane up to Boston until end of October. Flew a grand total of 40 hours which given I realistically had ~4-5 months of aircraft availability due to MX/weather/Location, I would make the argument that is pretty good.

101 hours with no excuses. Loved every second! Some looked like this -

Most looked more like this -

All ended up safely back home, so it was a great year!

The year is not quite over but I have been quite fortunate to log almost 200 hrs this year. I am planning another trip this week so I might actually make 200hrs. this year. (2021)

As 2021 comes to a close I reflect on the previous 12mo of logbook entries. In the 2021 calendar year I tallied up 169.4 hrs in my Ovation 2. I would have flown a lot more but my Mooney was in the shop getting a new panel for 4 months. Memorable trips included a trip from PBG in upstate NY to HYI in TX and back and a trip from PBG to F45 in S FL and back. Only 1 fuel stop to and from TX. Ovation is a traveling machine! This was my first year of ownership.  100% dispatch reliability. Good stuff! My 2 favorite pics from 2021…

170, with two more to go. That includes 12 Angel Flights, which might be a record high for me, plus trips from my base in the Bay Area to marathons in Fargo and Tulsa and some of the flying to and from Airventure in N201LW with @wishboneash, who was kind enough to let me take the controls of his beautiful Mooney.

175 hours, and that was with some down time installing the IO390 in my J, which was not as simple as just an engine change.  Also had some issues with the electronic mag from lycoming that caused some down time.  Otherwise, it was a great year, minus the fact Covid took my best flying pal this December.  Pictures are from through the year, and a few from a great trip from Coeur d Alene Idaho to San Antonio, Texas to drop of at aerocomfort.
